SITCOM hit Miranda is to return for a new series this year, The Sun can reveal.

The BBC show is back three years after writer and star Miranda Hart, 45, said goodbye in an emotional finale watched by seven million fans.

Bosses have managed to persuade her to commit to a fourth series.

A source said: “Miranda has always been a huge hit on the BBC so getting her to sign up for another outing is a great result for them and viewers.

“When it ended more than three years ago viewers were hopeful it would come back but it always looked unlikely because of Miranda’s busy work schedule.

“But all parties have come to an agreement and it’ll be back later this year if all goes to plan.”

But it seemed to have ended with two specials, including The Final Curtain on January 1, 2015, when Miranda tied the knot with long-time boyfriend Gary, played by Tom Ellis.

Miranda told viewers: “I don’t know when and if I’ll see you again.”

The show propelled the 6ft 1in comedian to stardom. She appeared in Call The Midwife and made her Hollywood movie debut in comedy Spy in 2015.

But illness forced her to turn down remakes of classic sitcom Up Pompeii and The Generation Game.
