Pets become part of some people's families... so yes, of course missing cat ads should be appear in the paper. If someone's paying for an ad, so long as it's legal, decent, honest and truthful, no one else gets a say anyway.

Of course, people have the right to advertise someone who is missing from their home and anything else they want to pay to advertise.
I can remember staying up all night in floods of tears making fliers for a missing cat only to have the little **** sitting in garden licking his paws next morning as if nothing had happened.

Yes, Hog.
It is no great shakes though because the Personal Ads in newspapers have ALWAYS been full of people searching for pussy. ![]()

Yeah, if people are paying for ads, can't really police what they put.
I wouldn't place one for my cat though. At the risk of sounding ****ing evil as hell (though I am sure I come across that way when talking about the demoncat anyway) I would be relieved if she just disappeared, though of course I would not be happy if she was in an accident or something, but finding some nice old lady who is willing to put up with her grandkids being attacked left right and centre and a cat that comes inside to have a crap, then smears it up the bloody walls...great. |

To avoid the attacks you need to tire the cat out with about 15 minutes of energetic play using a feathery toy on a stick, then reward with a treat. It might be worth trying this directly before the grandkids are due and you might see a difference. Whatever you do, avoid play with hands at all times or else puss will start to see them as prey and will always attack. Cats can be trained just like dogs, and I hope this helps. |

It took me about 6 weeks to cure her of the habit with just firm language, treats and no contact when she did it when people petted. She's fine with hands now. It just takes patience. Have you tried feliway Vicky? Some people find that very helpful. All cats are different and some just aren't really happy in a home with children. Rather than wishing her away if all else fails you could try rehoming her. Some of the charities will send people interested in rehoming her to see you so you get a feel for where she is going rather than just taking her away.

That's awful, Jaxie. Thank goodness there are people like you who will rescue cats in this situation and are willing to put the time and effort in to make them feel safe and secure again.
I adopted a feral cat that took refuge in my conservatory during bad weather. It took months of patience, lots of reassurance and quite a number of very nasty scratches but, eventually, he turned from a very aggressive cat that I couldn't approach into the soppiest, most loving little fella who wanted to lay in my arms being constantly hugged. It's so rewarding to see those changes. |

We had a little stray guy who died a couple of years ago. He was such a character. He was older than we thought at first and had lived rough for a while, he was very sad when we took him in but turned out to be a really lovely cat. Very strong personality and unluckiest cat I've had, broke his leg badly (the vet thinks a dog got him and swing around by his leg). He had to have it amputated. He was incredibly strong willed amazed the vet by getting up almost as soon as he came round. We tried to keep him in a room after surgery so he didn't move around too much and put a baby gate on the doorway so he wasn't shut away and he jumped it, 4ft, the day after his amputation. He didn't want to be in that room, he wanted to lay in the toilet. ![]() After he recovered the vet thought he ought to be an indoor cat with his disability but he wasn't having it. He started to deliberately piss on my foot in protest and sit by the back door until I gave in and started to let him out. He was fine and used to leap fences and all sorts 3 legged. He lived a few years after that, eventually died of kidney failure. Miss him loads.
