Default My workplacement

Just thought id share something with you lot lol
As some of you might know i go to college and every other week,as part of my course i have to go on a work placement.Well i started yesterday, after a long wait for the return on ym CRB checks (police checks).Im working 9-3.30 until February in a care home and after today and yesterday im actually quite proud of myself lol.
I am working on the EMI unit and for those of you who dont know,EMI take care of the residents in the worst condition. Most of them cannot eat without the aid of a carer, some are blind or partially sighted. All have mental health problems such as alzheimers (in its later stages) and many of them have violent tendencies. Some are unable to talk completely and most are verbally aggressive.
Unfortunatly as I havent been trained and am under 18 I cant get totally stuck in there.Im not alloud to do lifting and handling and I cannot do personal care (although i ended up having to help with a toilet duty today!)
I did feed two of the residents though which im quite pleased about and thought i did a good job although i was later informed by senior members of staff that the carers should not have asked me to do so as i havent been trained
Luckily every thing went smoothly though.
Has anyone here ever done a placement on an EMI ward or works on one?

Well done on that supernoodles. It must be quite a challenging thing to do so credit goes to you.

Are you looking to do that as a career?

Nah but I'm a part-time carer for a disabled parent so I understand the challenges you must face - well done for doing it.

thanks lauren, some are the staff I feel are starting to make a scivvy out of me though. At 3.00pm everyone on the floor (about 35 residents) have a cup of tea, milkshake,or coffee and either a jam sandwhich or buiscuit.Today I was left to do the whole floor by my self.
I diddnt mind becuase it kept my busy and I quiye enjoy helping people but the whole of the staff on my floor sat in the office and talked!I couldnt beleive it.Then when i had about 3 residents to go i walked passed the office and one of the members off staff dais 'sit your self down and have a rest'.I was like, errr bit late now,may as well do the last 3!
Im not even supposed to be left alone with one of the residents as there known for their violence and aggression.
Never mind eh?
