..I know that people will say I'm 'shading' for saying this but I'm going to say it anyway and it's no offence to Wanna either...I think this is an awful idea..in the last two quizzes and because of google image search, the questions have been challenging enough, I don't think anyone has found them easy, I know Callidus haven't and I know that we and I'm sure others have only got some because of Shaun's clues.I mean for me, it's the satisfaction and good feeling when you've been googling for hours and then you suddenly find the answer to a question and it's that feeling that kind of motivates you on...so making one 'almost impossible' would just be very disheartening because everyone would be trying to find that to get the 10 points and that would be much less time spent on the other 49 questions, which are hard enough in the time we have...

..I think it also makes it so that people will say..oh, we got more questions right, you only won because you got one or two 10 point questions and leaves it open for bad feelings and drama/arguments etc...it also leaves potential for bigger gaps in the teams so people might think, oh why bother now we're so far behind etc and it's always sad when teams start to 'give up'...so yeah, I know no one will probably agree and I'll be really unpopular for saying all of this but in just about every game, whether I'm a part of it or just watching it..the most common post seems to be..'it's just a forum game/chill out/it's meant to be fun..' etc ..and the reason why these 'dramas' happen is because people work really hard in games/commit to them and spend lots of time on them and fitting them into all of their real life commitments and that is quite stressful and can make people fractious/irritable...yeah, they are 'just forum games..' and they're all challenging enough and take up many hours of time already without making them more challenging or allowing for some teams to take huge lead/gaps and other teams becoming disheartened even though they've really tried their best..and the pics having to be altered has added another challenge level anyway...it's also really good to have the points close together, which makes it really exciting...so yeah, sorry Wanna and I'm sure other people will probably want to do this but I really don't like the idea...

I was thinking that the 'golden' question would be anonymous, that way nobody is distracted by a specific image? So it'd be revealed when all of the answers are at the end of the round.

But I agree with the concerns about the possibility of one answer swaying the overall winner.

I'm just toying with new ideas, I don't want the game to get stale.

I'm with Ammi on the problems if the points gaps get too big, it could quickly get impossible for teams to catch up so they lose their incentive....

Plus dear god...don't make them any harder please

..I don't think it is stale though. it's still a game that is one of the most popular ones and one that most members are part of ...I think in a way that the google image search, although Zee found it a nightmare at the time has been a good thing because that's already made a change and brought a more challenging element but it's not too challenging in that it's possible to still search and I think too challenging can just then start to be disheartening..last time it was a close game all the way through and that's what made it fun and I think that should be kept without the possibility of a team winning by getting one or two golden question..I also think that's not fair on teams who have spent lots of time and tried really hard and it'll just leave it open to all sorts of bad feelings and it's ok saying..oh, it's just a game/meant to be fun..but there are arguments etc which are bound to happen because all the games are challenging enough and do cause stress because the majority of people do try really hard and seeing that hard work devalued by golden questions would only cause more stress...

..anyway Shaun..we've only had one pub quiz with the images and format as you did it last time so it can't really be stale but it also has to feel do=able without having to spend more time because it almost consumes you for two weeks anyway...

..it's just that I see time and time again..oh, it's just a forum game, it's meant to be fun, don't take it so seriously..and then those very same people can also 'take it seriously..and it's because they might just be games but I think we all take them seriously in that we all try really hard and that does get stressful..I think 'challenging' has to be balanced as well and not too challenging otherwise all of the fun is taken out so how can forum games then be fun..?...

well not really... every pub quiz i've ever done (and that's 4 or 5 now) has been image based. It is a bit boring to run doing the same thing every time, just from my perspective. I'm also a bit annoyed that every single suggestion I've made has been shot down every time; it's a damned if I do something, bored if I don't situation.

There wouldn't be anything "harder" about the question in proposal... I'd basically just set up the round as per normal and then go "right, the golden question is #31" because I think it might be challenging, or perhaps I could just pick a number totally at random. It wouldn't even necessarily have to be every round, it could just be a one-off.

..I'm not really shooting any suggestions you've had down, Shaun..I just don't think that one question should have a much larger points value...maybe choose one question in each round that you think would be harder than the others but don't tell the teams what it is and maybe just give it double points or 3 points or something and then PM it to someone impartial/not involved with a team so they also know it and reveal it after/or they will reveal it after everyone has submitted their answers so no one knows what the question was and doesn't place any more importance in finding it..?...

Just came to post, but nothing that Ammi hasn't just said. I second her reasons.

All credit though tbf Wanna and Shaun for wanting to inject something fresh and new into the game. I love it, have from the start and will always take part, the only thing is it's almost a foregone conclusion every time which teams will finish in the top positions, and I'm not knocking anyone so I sincerely hope it's not taken that way, on the contrary teams deserve their results as it's down to how much effort gets put in and they work their socks off so hats off to the high placers and winners.

I'd like to see people sign up individually (I've said this before to howls of outrage ) and then the host randomly allocates players to teams. It'd mix it up nicely and take away the 'predictability' of who will win.

Some teams are well oiled machines, they are almost flawless at this game now. Damn them

In fairness to Callidus and the teams that have been victorious in the past it is down to group effort and hard graft! If everybody who signed up to the team contributed 100% there may not be such a gulf between the teams, WS and his team ran Callidus a very close second last time and that was down to commitment from the whole team, I think for alot of teams you will find that of the 5 who sign up, you will be lucky to have 3 actually doing anything so while randomly allocating players is a good idea in theory in practice it probably wouldn't work as if someone who worked hard for their team was in a team that didn't turn up they would probably give up half way through as it is not worth the effort.

This is quite a good idea and is not in the Poll

I don't mind either way, I was just brainstorming ideas to revamp the game.

My reason for this idea was because the past two quizzes I've played in Callidus have been so far in front going in to the last round that we all pretty much know what the outcome is gonna be. I'm not trying to take anything away from Callidus they've got into that position on merit.

In the last game we was in second place but knew we'd have to get all 50 questions correct to stand any chance of winning. And then think about teams that are even further behind, most them teams probably think they have no chance and end up losing interest and giving up on the game.

It would be an experiment, if it turned out to work and create more excitement into the game then keep it for future quizzes, if it turned out to fail then scrap it. We don't even have to bring the Idea in this time, we could see how this quiz goes without the idea and if we get more or less the same outcome we usually get then we could look at ways of revamping for the next one.

If you think ten points is too much then that could be changed too 5 or even 3 bonus points, and if Shaun makes it really difficult with no clues to that question then it's likely nobody will get the Golden question right anyway, but with it there it brings that element of things can swing around and the winners are not a formality.

.I don't think we were very far ahead in the last one, Wanna..we actually didn't think we would win and it was close..we did have a good lead in the one before but that was probably because it was the first time the 'scrambled' pics were done and I think people probably gave up a bit because it was such a 'shock' and so different but now everyone is used to it....

Any idea when all of the teams will be confirmed Shaun? or is the list in the OP the final list?

I'm going to try make a start on the team rooms later tonight and it's really time consuming so hoping there isn't much changes if that's the final list in the OP
