Yet people still ain’t listening to the rules, going to beaches, popping round their friends for a drink, having gatherings, flouncing around town getting drunk with strangers, this is serious.

I think if Boris gets through this as I expect him too and the cases and deaths haven't dropped enough I think he will take a really strict approach having gone through the worst part himself

It's shameful though if that's what it takes when so many other world leaders responded with science and sense... and his response of herd immunity has brought him to this.

Omg it's Mokka.

To be fair though Mokka, the "herd immunity plan" was never really a thing in action and we've been on "social restrictions" for over a month and a fairly standard lockdown (not any less strict than most countries) since schools closed 2.5 weeks ago. The response wasn't as snappy as it could have been, but it hasn't been overly light IMO.

There is of course the issue of parliament not really sticking to their own rules; clambering all over each other, leaning over shoulders, whispering in each others ears... Whilst informing everyone else to keep a 2 meter distance. It's a bit confusing why they thought it didn't apply to them. But a lot of them have caught it so it clearly went round parliament.

Not entirely accurate, we had folks up at the podium talking about it, he was talking about it, we found out what his advisors had been saying about protecting the economy rather than the people.

The WHO have said that attacking the virus and being quick and decisive are the most important things, so even pissing about with this for a week has cost lives; not only that, but this has been known about since December, so the fact we only heard about this plan in early March before it was scrapped publicly not long after (tories still deny the strategy ever existed despite video of the cabinet speaking about it), disguises the fact there is no way they weren't working to this plan since it started to spread through Europe.

We knew we were 2 weeks behind Italy, and we tried to Pontius Pilate our way through it. As Cummings is reported to have said "If we lose a few thousand old people to save the economy, then so be it".

I still quite firmly believe that a "too strict" lockdown would have the opposite effect, though. We're not used to being an obedient population like somewhere like China. In many ways, at normal times, that's a GOOD thing but it means the stronger the "No, you can't", the stronger the impulse to say "****ing watch me".

We also don't have the police or military resources to actually enforce it widely so threats of action are somewhat empty. They could forcibly lock down London and maybe one or two other large cities... That's about it.

Are there certain arwas where this is more of a problem than others? I've seen literally nothing like this around here. Eerily quiet, if anything.

it's absolutely silent round here, maybe half a dozen people taking their dogs for a walk each day, and it's been that way since the lockdown started.

I wish Boris well, it's not looking good

My neighbours over the back fence, and the people across the road from them, like to hoot at each other from their gardens so it's not always silent here. To be fair to them, they're keeping a large distance. Hence the need to shout .

The whole street knows how their day has been.

50+% it seems. 50/50 of reported cases but I'd err on the side of all deaths being reported but not necessarily all recoveries.

Also I suspect Boris will have been sent to ICU "earlier" than most as they'll be being extra cautious.

I'm also relatively sure it's 50/50 of cases on ventilator... Not 50/50 of all ICU admissions but there's conflicting info there so I might be wrong.

I seem to recall the percentage was 75/25 for ICU recovery ..

It's great the leaders of the other parties are putting politics aside and wishing him the best, it's a nice sight to the usually daily attacks from each party to the next

Default Breaking News. Boris diagnosed with Corona Virus.

I bet Adam Boulton regrets his horrendous smirking when he broke the news on Sky that Boris had been tested positive for Cov19

I don’t know if anyone has posted the link before but on the bbc news site it gives you a Coronavirus map of cases in the uk you can type in your post code and it tells you how many confirmed cases in your area

There is also a break down of how many deaths in each age group.
