Watching BBC Sunday Show earlier, did the First Minister really state his desire to kick me (and fellow @ScotTories MPs) “out of Scotland?” Not just out of Parliament mind you, but kicked out of my home country? How does this language sit with SNP’s #HateCrime legislation? https://x.com/david_duguid/status/17...353296751?s=20 |

An MSP is threatening to take legal action against Police Scotland after a tweet he posted criticising the Scottish Government’s transgender policy was logged as a ‘hate incident’.
Veteran Conservative Murdo Fraser said the force had ‘behaved not just outrageously, but unlawfully’ after learning that his name appears in police files for expressing a political view. A trans activist reported the post on X, formerly Twitter, to Police Scotland whose officers decided it did not amount to a crime but should be classed as a ‘hate incident’ which will remain on record – even though no law had been broken. Mr Fraser, MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, is threatening legal action against the force to have the incident deleted and its hate crime policy changed, with the support of the Free Speech Union (FSU). ![]() Last night Mr Fraser told the Mail: ‘Police Scotland has behaved not just outrageously, but unlawfully according to the legal advice obtained by the FSU. This is Police Scotland attacking free speech but it is more sinister than that. My tweet wasn’t pointing a finger at an individual, it was critical of a Scottish Government policy. If police are now treating criticism of SNP policy as hate incidents, that is a really serious issue as it shows how Police Scotland has been captured by the SNP policy agenda.’ On November 18 last year, Mr Fraser shared a column written by Susan Dalgety for The Scotsman, which claimed the SNP Government’s non-binary equality action plan would lead to children being ‘damaged by this cult’. Commenting on the shared post, Mr Fraser said: ‘Choosing to identify as “non-binary” is as valid as choosing to identify as a cat. I’m not sure governments should be spending time on action plans for either.’ A member of the public reported the post to Police Scotland, claiming it constituted hatred against non-binary or transgender persons. The Mail is not disclosing the name of the complainant, who is a trans activist... https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...eet-claim.html |

SNP leader
at his conference Talking to Victoria He wants a New Policy Referendum, After a General Election? [Humza Yousaf will attempt to “draw a line” under the SNP’s independence policy at this weekend’s party conference after a failure to address concerns over the cost of living crisis was blamed for its defeat in the Rutherglen and Hamilton West byelection. The conference opens on Sunday with a crucial debate on Yousaf’s proposals to seek a mandate at the next general election to open independence negotiations with Westminster, which has already attracted widespread criticism from senior party figures.] https://www.theguardian.com/politics...rty-conference Last edited by arista; 15-10-2023 at 08:56 AM. |

Speakers scheduled to appear at a pro-Palestinian event at the SNP conference
blamed Israel for Hamas terrorism and described last weekend’s attacks as a “dream coming true”. The party’s leadership was urged to block the appearance of the two guests on an “expert panel” for a fringe event, organised by the SNP Friends of Palestine group, over the “deeply inflammatory” remarks. ![]() https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/202...m-coming-true/ |

This stance from them... just proves that they know it. I'm still more or less pro-indy (although I think it now matters less than it did - we missed the boat timings wise) however I find it very difficult to mark the SNP box these days. |

I struggle to name anything tangible that the SNP have delivered in recent years, I think it's time they go. I don't know who I'd vote to replace them but they've just settled into this fairly meaningless centre ground where Nicola Sturgeon's main accomplishment and purpose was to deliver zippy zingers about Westminster politicians, which was entertaining but she could do that on a late night comedy panel show. Humza Yousaf... has inherited the leadership and there's no platform to speak of. I'd be stunned if they are re-elected.

[Former SNP leadership candidate
Ash Regan defects to Alba party] [Alba said her decision came after increasing disillusionment with the SNP's leadership and its "wavering commitment" to Scottish independence. Ms Regan, 49, was elected as SNP MSP for Edinburgh Eastern at the last election and becomes the Alba party's first representative at Holyrood.] [She came third in the SNP leadership contest won by Humza Yousaf in March.] https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-67248844 Last edited by arista; 28-10-2023 at 10:23 PM. |

What they really need to do is move independence away from politics to gain traction, but of course, that's just not possible

At least away from party-politics, but as you say it's impossible. It's too tied up with espatblished politics, class, royalty, sectarianism... all sorts of complex things outside of all it should be about (economic viability/prosperity).
