Cheers, everyone!

I'm still over the moon! Just looking up accomodation now, I have a fair idea of where I'd like to go.

Anyone else have more UCAS news?

I applied last year, unfortunately I only applied to the one university out of plain stupidity because we were planning on moving house, and I wanted to stay living in the general area...
Hence applying for the nearest uni possible.

I got accepted but later found the accomodation was awful and the people there were rather patronising due to me having a northern accent and living down south. I was treated unfairly due to my accent alone, and the assumption that my common accent = im dumb.

I acheived more than enough UCAS points to enter the course, yet the professor interviewing me wrote some random scribbled science questions on a piece of paper specifically for me...
Since I hadn't been in school for years at the time, the information was a little lost from me and I didn't get all the answers right on the quick test he literally drew up on a small piece of paper in five minutes, right infront of me.

Because of this he proceeded to make flipant comments and generally talk down to me.

Anyway...
Ive finished college now and acheived almost flawless marks of Distinction, Distinction, Merit and have well over the required amount of UCAS points already..plus a keyskills certificate which adds even more on. So shock horror, perhaps my accent doesn't define my intelligence afterall.

Im going to apply again this week but just have one question...
Is it possible to apply purely from home? without the need of college?

I remember there being some form of password to enter your application and needing to post Ł15 first before being allowed to apply to multiple universities. Do UCAS receive the Ł15 then just one random day later you're able to send off your application online because they've enabled it?

UCAS itself hasn't really given me too many problems. Yet. It seems pretty straightforward, but the entire layout annoys me a little.
Retroman, I wish I could be of more help - but I've no idea as I'm applying through college and then if I re-apply next year it'll be through deferred entry with the advice of my previous college.

Ah that's ok, im hoping a knowledgable UCAS expert or someone who has applied from home before might enter the topic and be extremely useful lol..but we'll see.

I think i'll visit the UCAS website now and just complete all the information, then try and proceed with applying and see what notices I get telling me "You have to do this, or that" etc.

If all else fails ive got an open evening this month at a university and a college that does university courses, so perhaps I could try asking them.

Not applied yet, but I am doing next year because I'm at college for 3 years because I started a new A Level in my second year and want to finish it so for the third year I will have a really easy timetable which will be 3 x 90 minute lessons in 1 week so then I have plenty of time to do what I want to

Ones I have lined up though:

Uni of Manchester
Manchester Met
UCLan
Salford
Edgehill

and with all them being in/near Greater Manchester, the last one sounds completely random ...

Bournemouth

Oh, interesting - what course are you thinking of doing then?
Yeah, Bournemouth does sound random but that's a good bunch of choices - what's with the angry face next to Salford though? Haha. Next year will probably be pretty fun for you then, but as long as you end up where you want to be at the end of it...

Hi Retroman, you can make an Individual application to UCAS. You can find out how to do this on the UCAS site follow this link

http://www.ucas.ac.uk/students/startapplication/faqs/

Hope that helps a little

Salford is crap, I have no intention of going there its just there to fill up numbers and I live about 20 miles away from it but I might change it yet anyway

Finally sent my application off today! I've been extremely ambitious with my choice of course (which is competitive with few places), as well as with the universities. But I can always take a gap year to sort stuff out if things don't work out... I'd really regret it if I hadn't tried.
However, having said that, the fact is that you need to be realistic about your abilties - a main problem is that I'm not.
I was going to apply to some London universities, which are also competitive, but then realised how expensive the living expenses etc. would be.

I'm just so glad I've sent it... it is later than others sent it, but I wanted to make sure my PS etc. were pretty decent. That's a weight off my chest!
