Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has passed the $100 million mark at the worldwide box office just 24 hours after its release.

The sixth instalment in the wizarding saga has earned $58.2 million at the US box office and $45.9 million internationally since Wednesday, marking the best start ever for a movie franchise.

Veronika Kwan-Rubinek, Warner Brothers' president of international distribution, told Variety that the "outstanding box office numbers" were a "testament to the universal appeal" of the magical movies.

The latest film has already set a new record for midnight ticket sales after raking in $22 million for US first screenings. The previous record had been the $18.5 million earned by The Dark Knight in 2008.

It was recently speculated that Harry Potter could surpass James Bond as the highest-grossing franchise in movie history.

Seeing this tonight

I've heard it's rubbish from my best friend, but he maintains that Transformers 2 is amazing despite not having seen it, so...

I saw it last night. It wasn't as good as the other HP films, but it was still worth watching.

Then your friend is most definitely wrong.
Transformers 2 is one of the worst films I've seen.

Erm, just got back from seeing this film, didn't enjoy it at all. Thought it was by far the worst so far.

Just got back from the cinema! I thought it was excellent, very telling of the story and really helps to shape the next film(s)! Really good film.

I don't understand the dislike towards it, maybe its because the younger ones aren't seeing more wand action and CGI, its good and pretty funny at some points!

I'd give it 7/10. Good, but a teeny bit disappointing. Very sad ending though

just got back.

It was a good film. better than the last 2 i think. not my favourite but it was good. i was quite slow moving but there was enough humour to get me through to the end. the ending was a little dissapointing. i was expecting a bigger fight at Hogwarts.

But all in all it was a good film. i might even go and see it again.

They decided not to have a big fight in this one as it would be too like the one in the 7th book.

Took my sons last night. They enjoyed it but kept interupting to whisper about pieces from the book being missing! The end was sad but the boys were horrified when a growwn man in front of us appeared to be sobbing his heart out!
