EastEnders favourite John Bardon is to make another return to the BBC soap on Christmas Day.

The 69-year-old, who plays Jim Branning, suffered a stroke in June last year and has since been undergoing an intensive rehabilitation programme.

He filmed his first post-stroke appearance in June this year, which was seen by over 8.5m people in August.

Last month, it was reported that he had made another return to Elstree Studios - home of EastEnders - to film a further episode. It has since transpired that he has filmed a brief appearance due to be aired at the beginning of next month, in addition to an episode which sees Jim celebrating Christmas Day with his family on the Square.

Speaking to Scotland's Larnarkshire FM, Walford veteran June Brown, who plays Bardon's on-screen wife Dot Branning, said: "He came back not long ago and he's done two episodes so far. His birthday episode which has come out [already] and then he's done another one which is Christmas day – I don't know if I should say that but it's not really that secret, is it? – and we've tried to make it more jolly, not so bloomin' dreary."

She added: "We have a bit of a laugh and I think it'll be nice."

EastEnders legend June Brown has revealed that she had been campaigning for John Altman's return to the BBC soap for over five years.

Earlier this year, the 81-year-old spoke out about how her Walford counterpart Dot Cotton needs her son Nick Cotton back in her life and is now very happy that John Altman, who plays him, has been asked to make a comeback by the soap's bosses.

Speaking on Scottish radio station Larnarkshire FM, she said: "He's coming back and because he's doing a pantomime, which was already booked, he has to go off for a couple of months and then he comes back again."

She added: "I'm so pleased because I've been fighting to get him back for at least five years and I've finally succeeded."

After sacking Shirley (Linda Henry) from the Vic, Phil (Steve McFadden) goes over to her house to hand over her last wages.


He asks her if she’s sure about moving away – and when she replies by saying she’s got nothing to stay for, Phil grabs her and they kiss passionately.

But when they end up in bed Phil tells an ecstatic Shirley that sleeping together was a mistake and makes a speedy exit – leaving her heartbroken.

So who does he want - Shirley or his girlfriend Suzy (Maggie O'Neill)?
