Well, congrats to him I guess, I wasn't supporting any of them.
He better be prepared because he's going to be in charge of a terrible situation.
Now that he is elected, let's hope he won't be killed a la Kennedy.

Its the ordinary hard working Americans that will benefit and those less fortunate, like the girl whos going to college and working nightshifts but still cant afford to pay for her sick relatives healthcare as Obama said in his speech! I am elated that Obama won, I got up at 5 to see if the results were in and had to stop myself whooping loudly with delight.

It shows that as a country America are united in wanting real change.

LANDSLIDE VICTORY! Chyeah.

Well done Obama! It's so inspiring to see someone like him become President, and his speech was fantastic. The fact that America's been inspired in this way to hope can only be a good thing. The country has progressed forwards so rapidly, considering the situation in America just 50 years ago.

Some important points to make.

Obama won in Iowa - a 91% white population. Wow! What a change.

Also, he won in a state where only a few decades a go, his parents were forced to leave as they were not allowed to marry as they're interracial.

Historic.

Yeh its amazing I had faith that America had moved on from the past and Im so glad to be proven right. It started with a dream. Your right this is historic. It restores my faith in humanity and multiculturalism. Just look at where all the troubles are, in places where people havent embraced that and moved forward and learnt the mistakes of history. God bless America sorry Im a bit emotional today lol

And McCain was only a few points up in states which the GOP should have won easily.

I don't believe McCain is a bad man (although I firmly believe that Palin is not a good or decent person). In 2000, McCain would have been the better choice if we had to have a Republican president. He was far more considered and thoughtful, and centralist then (although Al Gore was my first choice in 2000, and I will always believe that the election was unjustly stolen from him - but if he had been running against McCain instead of Bush, it would not have been as close as it was, and McCain would probably have won easily). But McCain was robbed of his chance in 2000 and by the time we got to 2008, he just wasn't the same person anymore. To clarify - I would have wanted Gore to win anyway, but McCain would have been a better GOP choice.

I am over the moon about Obama winning. I think this is a hugely important election, and it will start to heal the hurt that America has been feeling, and improve their standing in the rest of the world.

You're so right. People who call Obama a socialist either don't know what 'socialist' means, or haven't actually looked at what Obama stands for and believes in.

I'm very disappointed that it wasn't close in the end because McCain really deserved more than he got

Looking to the future, I like the sound of Sarah Palin to become the 45th President of the United States
You must be crazy! She cost the GOP points in this election. She has never had her eye on being VP - she wanted the top job. She will go for it in 2012 - but my prediction is that she won't even clinch the ticket.

As for whether Obama is capable - well, time will tell. However, I certainly have more faith in him than McCain. See my earlier post though for my thoughts on McCain; he isn't a bad man - he just isn't the right man to lead the country.

There's something seriously wrong somewhere when you consider that the highest paid person in the GOP 'team' was Sarah Palin's hairdresser. Wrong priorities or what?!
