We've had 'new' labour or tory light. Here we had the chance of a real difference to the status quo which is why it was so desperately stamped on.

BBC has reported a Ferry in Northern Ireland
with new cheaper staff,
has been halted, due to a safety inspection?

It crazy, the CEO earns 325,000 a year plus perfomance bonuses yet he is happy to put the safety of passengers on people who earn 5.00 per hour

Yeah ...

Poor safety and staff training !!

What on Earth are the bosses of P&O thinking ?!?!

Surely they can be held personally responsible for any deaths / tragedies ?

I am sure the Manager of that new team
can correct all the errors.
And then take the ship to Scotland.

Are these the same farmers who are wanting cheap labour on their farms? It's in their interest for P+O to get away with this.

P&O
would have gone under
if they did not change to cheaper staff.

The Sooner they set off, full of Lorrys

So what... are you so unaware you can't see the bigger picture here?

What industry do you work in... imagine if possible you are sacked and replaced with someone on £5ph. How do you live on that? How do they?

Petrol is (around) £1.60 a litre, energy and housing costs are the highest ever.

Explain to me how you survive.

[Grant Shapps hits P&O Ferries with an ultimatum
that he will ban it from British ports unless
firm's bosses ditch 'sweatshop pay' policy
The Transport Secretary has given an ultimatum
to P&O Ferries on pay rates
The Government could ban maritime ferries
from operating in British ports if they
pay under the UK minimum wage.]

i think insisting on the uk minimum wage if they want to dock in the uk is perfectly reasonable otherwise it is slave labour

Excellent and it will then set a precident so other organisations don't attempt to drive down wages.

It sadly wouldn't solve anythibg for the staff that have just been fired... They can't now fire all the NEW staff and rehire the old ones... But at least it might stop anything similar happening in future. Also a nice pay bump for those new staff.

tbh if the staff that have left got a 45K payout each as has been suggested, they are probably okay with it especially if they get another job relatively soon or if they are close to pension age they are laughing

but yeah this type of thing should never happen again, not only for the workers but also for the safety of passengers.
