Maybe they could make a condition that in exchange for statehood, Palestine hold free and fair elections? Get rid of Hamas. Perhaps then their Muslim brothers and sisters in neighbouring countries might want something to do with them then.

The Israel armed forces are operating on an all or nothing basis at the moment and I completely understand the reasoning behind it. However, the optics are dreadful. In times gone by they would have been able to do as they are without the rest of the world really knowing anything about it, not anymore. There is a limit to what the world will put up with

The BBC doesn't even refer to what Israel says now, instead it prefers to quote from Hamas releases and their "trusted independent reporters" in Gaza. Their tortured, purple prose accompanying pictures of undernourished kids are like show reels for news awards, it's like Drop The Dead Donkey. If I was the IDF I wouldn't allow these people to film either. Jordan and the UAE are dropping food but still not allowing Palestinians into their countries.

The UN claimed Israel was stockpiling aid and not allowing it into Gaza. Israel said the aid had been checked and passed and was ready for distribution, they released drone footage of it, ready to go. but the UN said it was not safe to distribute it so the aid sat where it was. Now the UN say that air drops are not safe. So what's to be done?

I look forward to similar stories out of Syria and Yemen... but I'm not holding my breath.
