into or leaving Indian coronavirus variant hotspots
The new guidance, which affects eight
local authority areas, appears to have been
issued without any widespread announcement.
]

[The government's coronavirus restrictions
website changed its guidance over the
last few days for people living in eight areas

it's very odd to change the guidance for some areas and not make an official statement about it. Who could possibly have thought that was a good idea

That's interesting if true, would suggest that "Long covid" is the immune system struggling to completely remove the virus and a dose of vaccine gives it the "boost" that it needs to clear it.

its all pretty ridiculous. The government should have come clean and made the local restrictions official. Equally, labour shouldn't be calling for the restrictions to be removed as they are now doing, as thats just going to spread infection further.

At this point its all completely daft

Boris said England was "never going back" to lockdown, the kick-off if some areas do just that literally weeks later...

the number on ventilator has probably gone down because the people have died. Deaths after the weekend are always a bit random. The number hospitalised is a concern for sure

Hospitalisations are up. Deaths are too but that's not really indicative of anything as the numbers are so low, it could just be random reporting variation. Hospitalisations is likely to be statistically significant though.

Unfortunate reality is that the majority of the adult population is not fully vaccinated yet. Less than half of the adult population has had both doses, and one dose is not enough.

Realistically they would have been better waiting until 60%+ of the adult population has had both doses.

These hotspots of infection were also associated with higher than normal rates of people not being vaccinated, so that could account for the hospitalisation increase.

Boris at his last press conferenced promised more info in a couple of weeks ... that time is up this week, so we need to know the details of those being hospitalised. Were they vaccinated or not

depends, most of the people recently hospitalised had not taken up the vaccine despite being eligible

so I would imagine it is more of the same?
