She's Irish, and it's an Irish phrase, it's not meant the way you're making out. We always say it, like "I told thingy that I wasn't going out".... etc.
Your example is in diiferent context and essentially a different word.

Would you still use 'Thing' and in the context that Noirin used it?

Yes it is very much an Irish experssion. In a village or city in Ireland and if you are talking to someone about a person whose name you can't remember off your head (or whose name you remember, but don't want to mention) you will often find that you will say "Have you seen thingamygiggy today?" It is not meant as an insult.

I don't know exactly what she said. I'm from Mullingar (Midlands of Ireland) but living here in UK and when talking to friends (on the phone) back home my friend might say "Have you heard from thingiemagiggy or whathisname?"

Ah, I'm after watching it again and whoever posted this thread is making something outta nothing. She wasn't referring to Marcus as a thing..... if she said thing about Marcus then it would be definitely a derogatory remark.

I think she meant "thing" as in the whole situation involving Marcus, Tom and everything. It wasn't a remark on Marcus.... just the problems in the house involving him and Tom for Noirin.

Now if she had said thing over there.... referring to just Marcus alone- that would definitely be the actions of a "witch". You don't say things like that to somebody you know and behind their backs.

H/L show at the end.

Noirin was going to the diary room after chatting with Siavash. Siavash seemed concerned that Noirin was going in to talk about him and what they had been discussing.

Noirin said to Siavash

"It's not you...it's thing"

I think she was just referring to the whole situation, not just Marcus in particular. Don't get me wrong now.... I'm not defending Noirin..... I despise the girl but in this incident I don't think she was just talking about Marcus. If she was then that's a different matter.

Oh it would be insulting up here if you said thing about somebody, especially if they're not in the room. That's terribly derogatory. It's ok if they're in the room and you're taking the p£ss outta them.... but no- you'd never say that about anyone. I'm talking about the word thing here, not thingy.

Possibly, I don't recall exactly what happened afterwards in the diary room.

'Thingy' I can understand, 'thing' just sounded like an insult, I was just trying to get it clear in my head.
