You see I agree with everything you said but you are still completely missing my point. Britney was not behind most of this. She was the face of it. That's why I don't rate her as an artist. She is an exercise in marketing.

I just cant help but laugh when you say Britney defined pop music. Britney didn't define shit.

To be honest I don't know why he is quoting figures and statistics. Does someone become more of an artist the more they sell? In which case shouldn't Prince be promoted to some sort of dictator of the universe status by now?

well I agree, that sales are irrelevant in regard to evaluating someone's artistry. But even if they weren't, BOMT doesn't merit the title of most successful pop song of all time :P

GaGa's gimmicks annoy me really, she has decent songs and that, but shes not controversial or anything, just tries too hard.

well if it's not, it isn't far off at all.
it was the first song in history to go to #1 in over 50 countries
it still often appears on itunes top 100 pop songs, 12 years later.
