Noone really cared about her until she joined X Factor and she joined the show as Girls Aloud were starting to flop, perfect timing really!

She's been the main focus of Girls aloud from the start. She was all over the tabloids before Ashley, before X-factor. Indeed, she got the X-factor gig precisely because she had become a bigger star than the group she was in.

I love Cheryl ... but its mainly males who rated her before. She was a bit of a tabloid star but was no bigger than most other celebs who appear in the papers. She never had her current status (which is seemingly national treasure atm) until she was behind the judges desk.

Well, of course it increased her star status. Its the top show on TV. But she was still a huge star before. And she did have a large female fanclub via Girls aloud.

This is all irrelevant. She was a nobody. Then a star. Then a bigger star. Now an even bigger star!

And the bigger the star you become the more you become a target for haters like Wombai. Who's probably just jealous.

No they weren't.. They've never flopped anyway.

She signed up to X-Factor after they sold out a UK arena tour and when they announced they were recording a new album - 'Out Of Control'.

They were starting to flop. Their last single before Cheryl joined X Factor charted at number 9 and was only the third off their album. Then The Promise predictably went to number 1 but after X Factor 5 they were struggling to get top 10 singles, I think one actually failed to do that (their first ever).

I do like them though, they're my main guilty pleasure

Don't be daft! I don't hate her and I have said on many occasions that she is a good looking girl - no denying that - but she can't sing and has no other significant talent. She is a fad - and like all fads - she will be replaced!

Only the third? Not many acts get three singles in the top ten, especially after the album has already been out.

Funnily enough, their singles charted lower since Cheryl appeared on the XF.

Girls Aloud are something of an institution in my eyes; the only example of a successful reality TV act; in that they've had a long career and have branched out into so many different spheres beyond what everyone expected of them. I hope the five of them get back together; but I'd rather they called it a day than go on with less than five members, it just wouldn't be right. I think it's a bit unfair on Kimberley, Sarah and Nicola that (if this is true) it's all going to end because Nadine/Cheryl are in some kind of dick measuring contest.
