So it is no surprise that philandering Ashley Cole has banned former wife Cheryl’s worried mother from moving back in with the couple following their reconciliation.

The couple plan to set up home together again in the £6million mansion they once shared in Hurtmore, Surrey – just days after making their reunion public.

Chelsea player Cole, 30, was awarded the house after their divorce was finalised in October, while his former wife moved into a rented home in Hadley Wood, Hertfordshire.

But after the couple made a clear display of affection at the singer’s 28th birthday party on Friday night, they are making plans to live together again – but on the proviso that mum-in-law Joan Callaghan will not share their home.

Mrs Callaghan, 51, has been a constant presence as Cheryl suffered the collapse of her three-and-a-half-year marriage to Cole after his string of flings came to light, leading to their separation in May 2010.

When Mrs Callaghan moved into her own separate wing at the Coles’ nine-bedroom mansion in 2007, Ashley was reported to be ‘delighted’.

But the footballer later told a friend he hated having his mother-in-law living with them, adding: ‘How could our marriage stand a chance?’

As the Daily Mail reported yesterday, Cole is telling friends that he will remarry the singer – and start a family with her.

And last night, a friend told the Mail: ‘Ashley has told Cheryl that Joan can’t be part of their relationship.

‘He knows it can’t work with Joan in the same house.’

The friend added: ‘Cheryl has to believe she can trust Ashley again. It’s a big test of their new relationship as to whether he can behave himself.’

Cole last night admitted he had ‘made mistakes’ but urged the public to judge him on his football rather than what they read about his personal life.

He said: ‘I’ve made mistakes, I just got to live with it. I just wish people could judge me more on football.

‘Judge me if you come and meet me and see me. I think people judge people a little too quickly without actually knowing the facts or the real person.'

AFAIK, he's been proven to be a double-dealing two-timing lying adulterer .....

IF there was any doubt about Cheryl Cole wanting to give ex-hubby Ashley a second chance, I can end it now – she has just had a heart-to-heart with his mum!

The Geordie beauty spent yesterday afternoon talking things over with her former mother-in-law, Sue.

Sue, 53, who lives in Chigwell, Essex, is said to have formed a strong bond with Cheryl during the marriage and fought hard to keep her and Ashley together.

She is desperate to see the singer – who has moved back into the old marital home in Godalming, Surrey, with Ashley – properly reunited with her footballer son.

I’m told: “Sue is incredibly fond of Cheryl and is forever singing her praises. She says she is so glad to have her daughter-in-law back.

“She realises how insanely happy Cheryl makes Ashley and believes they are a good team... Sue saw the positive impact which Cheryl had on Ashley. She loves her son and wants the best for him – as far as she is concerned Cheryl was nothing but a positive influence.”

Ashley, 30, is certainly keen to prove he is a changed man.

He flew back across the Atlantic from business meetings with megastar rapper Jay-Z in New York just to be present at Cheryl’s 28th birthday party in London on Friday.If Ashley was worried about what his mum and his ex missus might be saying yesterday, there was no sign of it. The Chelsea player looked relaxed as he was snapped leaving the training ground behind the wheel of his Bentley.

Ashley has admitted: “I’ve made mistakes and have just got to live with it.” And in a new interview he added: “I just wish people would judge me more on football and speak about football more than a life that people don’t really know.”

Friends of the couple say they are keen to put their past troubles behind them and are even talking about re-marriage and babies.

It seems Ashley has become very broody following the birth of his brother Matthew’s second child. My source says: “Family is the most important thing for Ashley – along with his football. Everyone is telling them what good-looking children they would have.”

That would certainly please his mum, who raised him and his brother Matthew single-handedly.

Ashley has said of his mother: “I just try and make her happy.

“She comes and watches every game I play. I play for her as well. As long as I make her smile after the game, it makes me happy.”

Cheryl’s chat with Sue was the first step in getting their respective families to support their decision to give their love another go.

Cheryl Cole may be on the verge of taking Ashley back but she is apparently making sure she lays down the ground rules first which look set to see him splashing out £10million on the singer.

Among her demands, Ashley will buy her a hi-tech recording studio, a new family home and a property in Los Angeles. Cheryl is also said to want Ashley to arrange a top-secret wedding ceremony abroad with a lavish second honeymoon to follow, according to The Sun.

It looks as though Ashley will have to give in to his former wife’s demands if he wants a second chance as a source said Cheryl made it clear they were ‘not open for negotiation or compromise.’

The source added: 'If Cheryl is to face public scrutiny over taking Ashley back she wants to know he is prepared to put his money where his mouth is. Ash has got no choice - he may have got Cheryl back but it comes at a significant price.'

But it seems Cheryl’s dreams may be within reach as yesterday it emerged that Ashley was set on wooing her back into his life by planning to propose to her again.

The pair, who divorced in September last year following cheating allegations surrounding the Chelsea defender, were rumoured to be reconciling after Cheryl was sacked from the US version of the X Factor as Ashley lent her a shoulder to cry on. Cole was also spotted wearing his wedding ring on a night out with pals, creating more speculation and the couple were then spotted getting cosy at Cheryl’s birthday bash at the weekend and are believed to have spent the rest of the weekend together.

The couple’s apparent reconciliation came just days after Cheryl revealed a dramatic new look, stepping out for the first time since her X Factor humiliation sporting a cropped blonde bob.

Cheryl’s new-found happiness doesn’t seem to be contagious in her inner-circle of friends though. At her birthday party on Friday at London’s plush Sanderson hotel, Cheryl’s Girls Aloud bandmates Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts reportedly gave Ashley a less than friendly reception, with Nicola even refusing to say goodbye to him at the end of the night.

Likewise Cheryl's confidante and close friend Derek Hough, who has been the Geordie singer’s 'rock' since her marriage breakdown last year and stuck by her through her bout of malaria and X Factor woes, is said to be 'livid' at her getting back with her love cheat ex and slammed her for being 'weak'.

'Derek is livid with Cheryl and the way she has treated him over the past year,' a source told heat magazine. 'He told me that he kept quiet for so long while she strung him along, but that he’d finally had enough. He told me: "I asked her what the hell was going on with Ashley, because she’s sworn to me that nothing was happening, but this time she couldn't hide it and broke down. She admitted that she had to give Ashley another chance or she’d spend the rest of her life regretting it."'

Cheryl Cole has apparently told ex-husband Ashley to ditch his friends, banning him from big nights out with pals in an effort to curb his bad behaviour.

The Girls Aloud singer is thought to be on the brink of reconciling with her former spouse, but has apparently issued a list of demands before she will agree to make the reunion official.

Yesterday it was reported Cheryl had handed Ashley a wish list of various gifts worth £10million in total, and now it seems she has asked her ex to ditch his mates and say goodbye to boozy nights out.

I think the problem with Cheryl is that she was so career focused and determined to make herself a big household name, now that all of that has faded away and she no longer has any 'career' as such, she's turned back to her life and realised that she'd forgotten all about her own personal life as she's been so wrapped up in trying to be successful. It's very apparent that she feels the only way that she can fill the hole in her personal life is too be with a man, and now she's turned back to Ashley as he represents a time in her life when she was successful and also a time in her life when she was happy and comfortable and I think she's playing it safe by going back to him because she's clearly insecure about her social life. It's clear though that she's obviously insecure about the relationship anyway, if these stories are true, and that will only spell disaster for her unfortunately.
