Its very handy not having a job when you've got a summer of Big Bro and the world cup. Life doesn't get much better.

I'm pretty sure they speak Welsh because it's Glyn's first language, and he's more comfortable then. I'm glad they're speaking Welsh! Not being exposed to it normally, I'm really enjoying hearing it. It's even inspired me to look up some lessons online. |

They only ever seem to speak Welsh to have a private bitch!! lol. I have heard my friend speak Welsh before and it's strange as some phrases sound like other English words!!
I find it amusing how Glyn will speak Welsh then say an English swear word for which there is no equivalent, but then continue the sentence in English. I love hearing people that speak really well in two languages as they do that a lot. I have to commend anyone that has taken the time to learn!! |

When I've seen them talking in welsh, it is always Imogen who starts the bitching and Glyn usually tries not take part too much. He kind of agrees with what the person is saying but does not add to it.

it's annoying, it's an english programme in england if they want to speak Welsh then can't they make a godamn Welsh BB?
Stupid people complaining about it. And i don't see why channel 4 reacted to be honest, it's not like they haven't made programmes like "queer as folk" where there was gay sex in the first few minutes after 9pm. |

I am also very surprised that both Imodim and Glyn speak welsh fluently. I am also welsh and most people i know are not so fluent. Does this mean that we could have people coming in speaking French,Spanish,German etc? IMO they should speak english only

Imogen and Glyn had their wrists slapped the first time that they spoke in welsh because it was seen as speaking in code. However, the Welsh language is seen as an English language so Big Brother cannot disgriminate against them.
They could also be seen to be speaking Welsh-English which is basically the dialects of English, spoken in Wales by Welsh people. |

I don't see a problem with it. It is interesting and promotes Welsh speaking - countries shouldn't be made to lose touch with their roots. At the end of the day they're from a different country and therefore have a different language. As long as they aren;t rude about it and switch to Welsh whilst other people are in their convo or sitting with them, then it is fine. I hate it when English people, especially abroad, expect EVERYONE to speak English. Perhaps if they didn't we would be more cultured.
Most non-English Europeans, for example, speak at least two languages!! Many speak several including English. Our country is an embarassment in that we aren't even made to speak more than our native tongue past GCSE and children do not even learn until an older age. If children were taught young they'd learn faster!!! That's what other Europeans do!!!! Get cultural!!!! |

As I said before I think it's ok. Especially when they put subtitles on so it's not like BB's hiding anything from English speaking people - so what's the problem? They're both from Wales, speak fluent Welsh and perhaps feel comfort talking Welsh so they should be allowed to speak it together. Glyn and Imogen both seem pretty decent people as well.

I don't see the problem with them doing it as far as the programme goes, as long as it is subtitled.
The only problem I would have, with regards to the affect on the other housemates, is if they were rude in doing it as I said before - but then that's my opinion in any situation with languages |

If they had people speaking Italian or Portugese, that would be another matter, but as has been played out in public already, it's a matter of allowing British languages to be spoken, and English is only one of the British languages. And yes, I do recognize the irony of a New Yorker taking the pro-Welsh side of the debate with a person who's actually from Wales. ![]() |

correct, exactly what i said before.
it could be seen as a code to the other housemates as they cannot understand welsh, but its a national language so they should be allowed to speak it! |

They allow them to speak Welsh because the word "disgriminate" raised it's ugly head in this PC world people run a mile to be seen not to disgriminate against anything.
If you want another point of view it is disgriminating against everyone else allowing them to speak in code mostly about other people from what I've seen. The communicating in code is why they are no longer allowed books and magazines. |
