Exactly! Not to mention it is entirly unworkable, detain suspects?...The law as it stands now has to jump through hoops just to detain some suspects long enough to question them ....

The Government is wrong completely to interfere with the Police with reforms they do not want and which the Police say will undermine and cause problems for them.

The Police just need to be given all they need to do their job well and to be supported by Govt not overload them with reforms that cause dismay and even anger from them.

Sometimes it does seem that David Cameron has a death wish as to the next election because as with his NHS reforms and now this backdoor part privatisation of the Police he will find that every little single thing that goes wrong in both those services will rightly or wrongly be laid at the door of his short sighted and badly thought out reforms,none of which were voted for by the elctorate in the 2010 election I may add.
