Its called flirting and to a straight male its funny and exciting, to you it obviously is not because he is gay so let opinons differ on that score as Gays are not always right, and by the same token neither are straights. Its just that we very rarely voice our opinons on such trivial matters.

Secondly Dan is a gay (albeit with a potential bisexual edge)
