well i follow the news, and the rape victims i see, are not what most people would say are the most beautiful people in the world...

you'd think that if attraction played such a big part, most rape victims would be very good looking, right? it doesn't seem that they are though, and actually most rapes happen from someone who knows the victim, not strangers... it's mostly women being raped by friends, co-workers, boyfriends, or husbands. being raped by a stranger is actually rare. So it seems that it's more about opportunity, as opposed to how someone looks.

by your logic, supermodels would be being raped everyday.

Like I said everyone's attracted to different kinds of individuals, just because you don't find someone attractive doesn't mean someone else doesn't and a small percentage of victims tell the world about it on tv so you cant base it on that.

You said its not down to sexual attraction when obviously there is no way you could know that.

And remember rapists are not classed as "most people".

Rape's generally about power, control and the ability to take advantage of an opportunity. Sexual attraction really isn't the overriding factor in most rape cases as Alex has said. To relate this tangent back to the tangent about prison if you stand out as different, you're a target anyway (new person in the prison system; you look different; you're a different ethnicity; you're a different sexuality) and that's why there's such a problem with men raping other men in the prison system - it's about power and asserting dominance, not about sexual attraction. Gay men are by default more of a target, not because they're gay and all inmates are wanting to have sex with them, but because they're different and the fact they're gay plays into the psyche of rape because the rapists can 'justify' doing it.
