Whether he is a team player or not had nothing to do with pushing the button. Had he not pressed the button, he would have been evicted Friday. Being a team player would have gotten him nowhere. He knew nothing about Monday's twist, so game wise it was the right thing to do at the time. For all he (or we) knew at the time, this week's twist may have saved him. It was absolutely a zero risk strategy if he believed he was in danger Friday-- which he was.

Being a team player does not mean you ensure your own eviction for the good of the team when there is a chance to be saved, even if small. At the end of the day, BB is a game and it is not a team sport.
