I definitely don't agree with his choice of words but I'm not really angry with him either? Perez had been goading him and I don't blame him. Still think he deserved the warning though.

an ass ******? The slur is just ****** The author of the article meant to write "silly-as, ******, look on your face", I would assume.

As for the actual topic... hmm... I am torn between two stances here. On the one hand, you've got Louis CK making a great point:

On the other, Perez is gay and therefore the whole contemporary "you're being a douche" meaning of the word is pretty dissolved. So yeah, a formal warning is fair enough, really.

Alexander should have not said those words but Perez does things deliberately because he thinks he is funny. Alexander probably just had enough and just said it at the heat of the moment.
