Their totally different.
Saying 'thats so gay' when dropping your phone is using gay as a bad thing, and saying 'thats so gay' to a gay couple is rude, but true.

Saying 'thats so gay' to a gay couple and THEN mocking them about it is homophobic.

I'm talking about the phrase itself and how its used (normally in the first scenario)

But you just said it's fine for someone to use that word to a man kissing his boyfriend because it's true.

I find the word 'gay' itself offensive. I don't believe in labelling sexuality. It's wrong.

Okay then, the phrase itself, 'that's so gay' is that an offensive term? no it isn't because it can be used in many contexts, to describe a gay couple being the main one obviously.

But 'gay' is not an offensive word if you take the meaning away, i see gay as something that is 'not the norm' or 'conventional' so someone saying that something going wrong isn't them bashing gays and using it as a bad term.

It is an incredibly stupid thing to say, especially when it's used in the wrong context, but that's why it's a stupid thing to say because it is totally out of context, therefore grammatically incorrect, i don't see it as wrong because it's putting a negative spin on the word 'gay'

I myself personally find gay people getting easily offended over silly words more offensive than the words themselves.

I wouldn't find someone trying to use the word 'gay' as a personal insult offensive because being gay isn't something to be embarrased or offended over, or at least it shouldn't be. As long as it was just name-calling (not even that, really) and not anything deeper than that, I'd just shrug it off, but I can understand that others wouldn't. Still, if the level of someone's insults is to just shout out what they see in front of them, it really shouldn't be something to be offended over.

Like my friends literally call me '******' 'queer' and 'puff' as nicknames and i really don't care

I don't see there being any point in getting offended by being called something that you are, it would be like me getting offended by someone calling me short or a brunette.

I went through a phase of saying "ah man, that's so gay" if like i missed a tv show or something, it just rolled off the tongue because i'd heard other people saying it, i never even thought about it's meaning or the fact some people might find it offensive
I have gay friends and family members so i'd hate to upset them
