Well no matter what week it got released it would be number 1, i do agree abit with an xmas song being number 1, but IMO this year theres not alot of xmas songs that i think are great.

She’s had to compete against thousands though, and work not hard, but extremely hard, in order to win the show. I find it unfair that she’s being blamed pretty much for just going on the show! The X Factor may be a bankable route to getting to No1 but that doesn’t mean the contestants don’t work hard – I’d say they work even harder than those artists you see who happen to luckily get a break, because these X Factor contestants are competing! It doesn’t stop people going on the show though – if it did – there’d be no show! So I don’t see why people are blaming Leona, that too, all those who aren’t fans of her. If Ben or Ray or whoever won I doubt you’d be saying the same thing.
In fact, amidst all these comments against her, which aren’t even her fault, I’m becoming an even bigger fan of Leona! |

The problem with having the X-Factor on so near to Christmas is that makes the christmas chart pointless too. |

But IMO it wasn't a dead cert to go number 1 because i thought more people would download it rather then buy Leona's single, yeah i was pretty sure she would reach number 1 but was totally sure.
I disagree i think someone like Andy doing a single for charity would be delighted to make top 10 top 20 even, and some other artists would be happy with a top 10 finish at xmas. |

It was a pretty poor collection of Christmas singles when Slade can still get to number 23 with Merry Xmas Everybody that was first released in 1973! The other bands obversely weren't trying. |

for example: Total sales in the top 5 places are as follows: Number 1 - 300,000 (15.00% total sales) Number 2 - 250,000 (12.50% total sales) Number 3 - 200,000 (10.00% total sales) Number 4 - 150,000 (7.50% total sales) Number 5 - 100,000 (5.00% total sales) other places down to 40 - 1,000,000 Total sales = 2,000,000 At £1 per single profit the companies make: Number 1 - £300,000 Number 2 - £250,000 Number 3 - £200,000 Number 4 - £150,000 Number 5 - £100,000 Now in comes the X-factor single and it all change. Number 1. - 500,000 (25.00% total sales) - X-Factor record Number 2. - 225,000 (11.25 % total sales) Number 3. - 187,500 (9.38% total sales) Number 4. - 150,000 (7.50% total share) Number 5. - 112,500 (5.62% total sales) Number 6 - 75,000 (3.75% total sales) other places down to 40 - 625,000 Total sales = 2,000,000 Again at £1 per single profit the companies make: Number 1. - £500,000 Number 2. - £225,000 Number 3. - £187,500 Number 4. - £150,000 Number 5. - £112,000 Number 6, - £ 75,000 So the loss for the original top 5 songs is: Ex Number 1 - £75,000 Ex Number 2 - £62,500 Ex Number 3 - £50,000 Ex Number 4 - £37,500 Ex Number 5 - £25,000 So the loss to what would have been number one is £75,000. That's a 25% less than would be expected. |

The christmas number one is always remembered...the number 2,3 4 etc isn't. The christmas #1 enters a hall of fame so to speak and looking at the legends in it such as Michael Jackson, Spice Girls, Whitney, Robbie Williams they are all great at what they did/do.
Other songs which also take the magic away are the likes of Mr blobby, bob the builder type songs and even though they are just a bit of fun artists feel a little cheated by acts like this. I think artists have started to learn there is no point to even putting out a song to try reach christmas number 1 because of whats happened in previous years...the only 1 missing out was Steve Brookstein when Band Aid 20 got it. The fact it was all for charity was great. I think acts that only need the cash like Cliff will always be gauranteed to release something each christmas. |
