It could be just the Ideomotor effect that causes such realistic reactions to spirit boards, BUT ya never know, it's not something someone should mess with unless they're sure they are prepared to open such doors

The only reason I think they might be real is because my dad did one when he was younger and he says it was a really creepy experience, that the board "knew" things that no-one else touching the planchette could have known.

Like you said, it's the Ideomotor Effect. People will swear down that they weren't moving it which may be true but someone in the group will be subconsciously moving it without even knowing. Plenty of experiments have been done where they would have a group of people do the board and then do it again but with blindfolds on. When they were blinded the whole thing came out gibberish. surely if it was a ghost it would be able to guide them to the right letters just like it had when they weren't blindfolded? and what's with people having the touch it anyway? surely if it was a ghost he/she would be able to move the device on it's own? it's all bull**** and if you believe it it'll be real to you but seriously the whole thing started as a word game back in the 1890s and then developed into what it is now throughout the years. and for the record, yeah i've done a few times it's really stupid But hey it's fun so go ahead Will!
