Many in the past have turned things around in their favour when things they would rather not have mentioned have been brought up during tasks.
No mention was made of the child abuse thing in his VT, that was the producers. They manufactured the conflict in the house with their task designed to anger the housemates, which led to the manufactured eviction, and his subsequent slating by Emma.

There wasn't a moment of that that was in any way true interaction in the house. It was premeditated and planned by the producers.

The VT was also created by the producers, and they authorised his entry into the house after its production, with Emma welcoming him onto the stage and in to the house

how could he explain how he felt without offending anyone? The very nature of his past statement is an offensive one. Short of lying to get by, there is no way to sugar coat it. I think the cowardly thing to do was to get rid of him. I think it would have been more interesting if he were left in this house and forced into a position to challenge himself and hopefully gain some education bc he came across ignorant with a very close minded view. This show did nothing to change it with their ugly treatment of him

It was clear in his VT that he was homophobic by his own words. The producers didn't make him say them. He was willing to advertise his views in that way and then go into the house. If other stuff was brought up by the producers then he had the chance to redeem himself by explaining his views in an inoffensive way. He didn't. The blaming of everyone else but Winston is pathetic.

Oh come on. The producers are/were well aware of his strong, stubborn views on gay adoption and other gay matters.

They planted that card in the game to bring the topic up and cause debate - they ****ed Winston over hard. Yeah, he's got some messed up views but Big Brother literally did set him up.

**** Winston anyway.

He will have been well aware of his controversial views in todays society so probably just did it for the cheque. He knew what he was getting himself into.

We all already know that they do those things for shock value and good viewing figures.
My point is that Winston had already shown his homophobia in his VT, knowing it would be shown as he went into the house. He also made a huge deal of not sharing a bed with a man. He WANTED people to know his views. People are blaming the producers as if Winston is some poor little innocent who has no blame attached to him whatsoever. He wasn't liked from the start - people were saying he would be first out BEFORE the producers showed his views on gay adoption. He has sympathy now from some, so hasn't he done well?

But the producers didn't give him a script for his VT. They asked what he'd do if a gay person was in the house, he could have said "treat them like any other person."

An interesting read on DS for those who think Emma interview was all about her personal beliefs on homophobia

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2128071

Jim Davidson was brought up yesterday as an example of this, but that was the wrong example as his blatant homophobia was on another show. Evanders however...which everyone seems to have forgotten about...

But they asked him a question about gays, then edited the VT to include it and then they broadcast it. It is the responsibility of the producers at every step.

He says the homophobic words with his own mouth in his VT. They didn't 'edit' anything. But he's denying saying it now even though it's on tape. What do you think of his memory loss?

I don't recall the Evander interview, I'm not sure if I seen it, but if he wasn't called out about his remarks he should have been. In Winston's case he had just been voted out by almost the entire house over his views and Emma was interviewing him straight after, which meant it was a red hot topic and emotions were running high. Maybe Emma's pregnancy hormones played a part too - she seemed genuinely upset and bothered. I honestly don't think Winston gave much of a toss during the interview or on BOTS. It didn't seem to faze him that much. IMO he's thick skinned and pompous with a high opinion of himself so he didn't inspire any sympathy in me.

I thought part of it was pregnancy hormones to be honest. At least her interview style was completely different than her normal style. She is rarely outspoken. It was nice for a change to see her be more heavy hitting. It was really refreshing. I want to see more of this side of Emma.

Some people are saying it was all for show but I don't see it that way. Many people in the "industry" are gay and when you have longtime friends in it, you're going to have strong feelings. Everyone gave Winston a benefit of the doubt, not just Emma. He had a chance to come clean on his comment, but instead he chose the low road. For Emma to write him off completely before he even enters the house when we haven't had the chance to see what him raw and unfiltered would go against the premise of the show... so I don't really see her doing that unless she knows them outside of the show.
