The plans for it were halted so I'm pretty sure you're getting worked up over nothing
Looking forward to them rebranding in the new year though

In this day and age, who doesn't have a DVR? (Sky+, Freeview+ etc.)

I really don't understand the point of +1 channels at this point. If you can't watch it live, record it and watch it whenever you want?

You really shouldn't assume that. I have Sky but with an old box and have no desire to update, I pay Sky too much money a month as it is.

I do however have a fire stick to watch +1 channels. If op or others want +1 it should be available.

How much are you paying? if you don't mind me asking.

I used to pay 60+ pound p/m, but decided to ring them up and cancel, they then offered me it at Ł31 p/m for a year.

When that year ended I rang them back and told them I couldn't afford anymore than what I'm already paying, so instead of losing a customer, the had no choice but to keep the price the same.

Sky are dying, they need all the customers they can get.

My advice would be to get in touch, tell them you can't afford that much any longer and if they can't help you, just tell them you'll cancel, if they don't agree to what you want straight away, they'll be ringing you up begging you to come back for the price you want.

I pay about 70 pound pm but have been reluctant to pay 10 pound extra for this and 10 pond extra for that in principle as seems pretty extortionate to me.

Thanks for your advice. Not that fussed if they call my bluff, will just change provider.

sky+ hasn't had extra subscription costs for like 10 years...

It would I believe involve getting a new box and as my other one is working fine I don't want to pay the extra charge. Pretty fed up with Sky anyway and don't want to give them any more of my hard earned money.

Cancel, ignore all of their offers to try and get you to stay, they will try REALLY hard. Wait two weeks or so and you'll start getting letters asking you to "come back" - you'll get your current package for half of what you pay now (plus a new box, free). If you can hold out for maybe 3 months they'll start giving even lower offers.

I think at one point they were trying to get me back by offering full package (minus sports / movies) for about Ł6 a month (Ł12 a month to include movies), plus half price line rental and broadband .

The only thing they'll basically never discount is Sky Sports, because they (I believe) have to pay out a decent chunk of it to the various teams.

TS I record on SkyHD and VirginHD

On my Sky there is a SkyAtlantic +1 Ch
that is great help I arrive back late

BBC1+1 is needed for many
they can get Local news a hour later.

TS - its not for you.

BBC can't even manage to make BBC One HD accessible to local news, there's no way in hell a plus one channel would be localised...

It's definitely not for me Ari, I'm a "cord cutter" and haven't had ANY form of over-the-air television since I cancelled sky over a year ago. No dish, no aerial, superfast fibre optic broadband. Sign of the times. Utter bliss.

To be fair, I recently cancelled the sky movies package because its easier to stream movies on the internet, same goes for sky sports. (Same goes for shows I miss, theyre usually on iPlayer-type sites once they finish, so I agree with TS a +1 isnt entirely necessary).. I wouldn't be surprised if Sky were dying.

My god, some people will literally moan about everything.

Why are you so desperate for a +1? It's use is actually outdated now.
