Couldn't they just change the ink cartridge in the printer?£20 from The Cartridge People.

Would love a red, white and blue Union Jack cover though.Imagine rolling through customs with that bad boy while the Europeans are still brandishing their crappy bergundy things.

I would also appoint a Minister for Passports on minimum wage who would sort through the design entries, we could then throw it open to a phone vote to recoup his salary and more and also have 5 free votes on an app I've just saved the country 500 million ..you're welcome

Aww, but then we'll have threads moaning about the cost to then print millions of these passports which will get printed and made regardless.

Solve that one!

Digital passports? I agree Chezza.

Plus £80? It'll just be the one charge of £74-80 to renew it surely?

I should think you would only need to get the new ones when you need to renew them again.

No need for the offensive remarks...Can you see the data relating to passports? That's why I posted the poll.

Well, I don't think it's been confirmed they're going back to the old blue ones.

But, as has been stated, of course the passports are going to be changed now we're out of the EU. That would happen regardless. And the current contract is up at the same time so, not really a big deal.

Who said it was a big deal changing the passports?...

It's the costings proposed that are causing concern.

You just made a post questioning why it was happening when a majority of the public don't want it. Nothing about cost.

That shows they aren't fussed for changing the colour only.

The point is people with current passports shouldn't have to change until they are due to expire or unless they really want to and are willing to pay? I think it will be easy enough for customs officials to direct UK citizens with EU passports to the non EU queue in 2 years time rather than wasting money renewing them?

But, according to the only reports we have, that's EXACTLY what they're doing. A new design that will be rolled out as and when people renew their passports.
