The fact that a number of accusers have settled out of court (presumably with a condition that they won't testify against him) will put a significant dent in any criminal proceedings against him.

Basically, if you're rich enough you can pay to get away with a lot.

its basically a refinement of feudal justice and it happens in so many countries across the world. In china, if you injure a bread winner, you must pay to support their dependents. It has it's good points, but then you get the "marry your rapist" manifestation where it all goes to poop and what Weinstein is doing is not really dissimilar to that
