![]() It's not only the 'hard left' that know Hollywood depictions of sensitive subjects are glamorised. As I've said on other threads I think the removal is a diversion, however it may be a catalyst for a generational shift change. We are living through the early years of a new milenia... Change is good, the scales falling from eyes and seeing how different people have been and are treated is good. As long as it is handled peacefully and sensitively I believe it's welcome and necessary.

to bring up another series from past in which slavery is highlighted in, Roots
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roots_(1977_miniseries) i had a discussion with my parents about this whole BLM topic, and movies/series content being removed, no longer shown on streaming services, and we immediately were thinking about this miniseries so any thoughts upon this one now? it had some ''controversial content'' like this , maybe ok for that time but i don't know how people who support BLM movement feel about this now

comparing Roots and Gone with the wind
Roots has more realistic view on slavery, so it could be seen as educational, more historical than a gone with the wind, who had shown the slaves in that to be happy to be slaves which is clearly a wrong view about slavery

The film is widely available to buy and it always will be. It's not censorship or 'legislating what we can or cannot see' for a company to decide what to host on their platform. No one is banning Gone With The Wind.
Pointing that out is not an attack and it's not 'venomous'. Last edited by Tom4784; 12-06-2020 at 03:29 PM. |

Well if you're trying to have a discussion about the movie, you kind of need to have watched it or you sound daft.

...with Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the racial stereotype of Mr Yunioshi, I wouldn’t say it was harmless tbh...even back in its day it caused controversy because of its offensiveness and it varied so much from the character as written by Truman Capote, so completely not in keeping with any portrayal either ...and yet it has remained For such a long time...so I guess that’s sadly how accepting society has been of these racist stereotypes and completely right and good that it’s finally being addressed....the ‘harmlessness’ as well could only really be determined by those who they offend../..if the stereotype negatively and if they offend, then they are not ‘harmless’...

...just to say that Audrey Hepburn was wonderful in that movie though...(..even though she differed from the book character quite a bit as well...
