..a 60yr old, breaking their back..?../...does not sound great at all, those older bones don’t have the same healing capacity as younger ones...at least though, he will afford the very best of medical care and I wish him a good recovery...how life can be changed in a split second...

it really depends on how severe the break was and it's location. Even with the best outcome it's life changing

Simon Cowell has thanked the medical staff who treated him in Los Angeles following a bike accident in which he broke part of his back.

The music mogul and talent show judge sent "a massive thank you to all the nurses and doctors", calling them "some of the nicest people I have ever met".

Cowell was taken to hospital after falling off his new electric bike in the courtyard of his Malibu home.

The 60-year-old said he should have "read the manual" before riding it.

"Some good advice... If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time," he tweeted.

He thanked fans and friends for their "kind messages" and exhorted them all to "stay safe".

Well it was pretty idiotic of him trying to do a 'wheelie' on a bike he'd never ridden before !

I very much doubt he wll ever be riding another bike , such a silly thing to do and only himself to blame.

Here's the Tea.... it wasn't an e-bike
It was an electric motor-cross bike that can reach speeds of 75km/hr

But as reporting from Forbes transport journalist Carlton Reid has since revealed, Cowell wasn’t really on a bike, or even an e-bike, at all. “Media reports have wrongly stated that British music mogul Simon Cowell broke his back in the courtyard of his Malibu home falling from an electric bike,” Reid writes. “In fact, he was riding an electric motorbike with a top speed of 60 mph [96.5 km/h].”

He broke his back in a crash... then recovered... then went riding around at 20mph on a bike with no helmet on...

Really quite baffling.

Bloke needs stabilisers tbh

Though, riding a bike is more environmentally friendly than getting chauffeured around in limos, which h could easily do if he wanted.

People drink too much and throw up but it don’t stop them from drinking again.

Lots of people don’t wear helmets because it’s a choice

I know that and to be fair I was plenty guilty of cycling with my daughter to school without a helmet on (she of course had one on, I didn't bother) ... HOWEVER ... most people haven't previously fractured their spine in a cycling accident. I'd have thought he'd at least be a bit more safety conscious after something like that, but each to their own I guess, at least it's only his own life he's risking in this situation.
