It seems likely that Meghan was hoping the letter would be made public - apart from her friends giving People mag info about its contents, Meghan wrote all 5 pages in meticulous calligraphy, telling the aide that she was ending each page in the middle of a sentence so that any page couldn’t be construed as the ending of the letter.

[Two days later she told the aide she felt “fantastic” after writing it, adding: “And if he leaks it then that’s on his conscious [sic] but at least the world will know the truth.' (The Times)]

It would have been quicker for her (and Harry) to jump on a plane to go see her father, which Palace aides strongly advised her to do. She repeatedly refused, according to evidence produced in court.
