As security for his shop he has the right to defend his store. I see nothing wrong with his actions

I'd like to go into the legality of not giving a refund. That is the store policy not law. If she demanded a refund he legally should have given her a refund.

lot's of shops don't give refunds, particularly if the person doesn't have receipt of purchase. It's a common way to turn stolen goods into cash

Only if it was faulty, there is no evidence to say she was returning faulty goods, she just changed her mind

When you do not have to offer a refund
You do not have to refund a customer if they:

knew an item was faulty when they bought it
damaged an item by trying to repair it themselves or getting someone else to do it (though they may still have the right to a repair, replacement or partial refund)
no longer want an item (for example because it’s the wrong size or colour) unless they bought it without seeing it

Proof of purchase
You can ask the customer for proof that they bought an item from you. This could be a sales receipt or other evidence such as a bank statement or packaging.

I agree there must be some sort of proof of purchase but other than that a store cannot refuse to give a refund if there are genuine issues with the product purchased.

This has been on the Martin Money show, its a common misconception you can just claim a refund, a shop does not have to unless the goods are faulty

Your legal rights to a refund

The problem with some of the BLM crowd is that because they have been unfairly persecuted in other situations, some of them have now got it in their head that they're always the victim, even when really in some cases they're the aggressor, like this particular situation.
