In the context I wrote, unpredictable means inconsistent although your argument falls apart when you state people only watch out of habit. If people only watched out of habit then the ratings would be consistent.

This series was never destined for high ratings like those on C4, it was only ever aired so that Channel 4 could fulfil the contract with Endemol, whilst resting the show and to try new things out.

Let me explain. By saying 'Habit' I meant as in people who have watched BB by habit for years and are only watching this one on and off now because it has the Big Brother name on it. People like me.

And again , the ratings have been falling with each passing week. Your argument to this after your trumpeting of the good ratings is that the show was never destined for high ratings? Thats rubbish in my opinion. Experimental is an overused word. Apart from changing the usual celebrity twist as damage control after last year and replacing a group of freaks with a group of talented individuals , what exactly has been 'tested out'?

C4 bosses were sure as hell hoping for better ratings than this. All tv shows are put on the box with the aim of achieving great ratings. Thats the business.

As for your ratings excuse? Unpredictable? Come on , they are just plain inconsistent! They show that people now only watch Big Brother out of habit! Not only that , but the weekly averages have steadily gone downwards!

This means even judged against ITSELF as an E4 show , its still not exactly doing too hot!
Gullible? My opinions are no where near gullible and naive (I just tend not to adopt a cynical aproach). I know the producers have to pull something big out of the bag, if Big Brother is to survive. I'm aware that with the show's current format, it has lost that certain spark but I beleive Big Brother as a franchise will always have a certain x factor, and hype to it (love it or loathe it). It always gets people talking. Since CBB5 the show has gone downward but it doesn't mean BB9 will be the same.

For E4, they are pulling in great ratings but it was never destined to match the viewing figures of other BB series like you was expecting. Plenty has been different this series.

Which explains why the weekly averages have steadily nosedived since the start of the series.

Every series apart from some of BB7 and BB8 was usually at 10pm anyway. I hope it does go back to 10pm, it's a better timeslot, less competition on at that time.

It should be moved to 10pm, and evictions should go back to BB5 format with just 30 minutes HL's.

There is too much competition at 9:00pm, with new dramas, sitcoms and more.

Nose dive or not, they are still healthy ratings for E4.

Its impossible to compare Hijack to the rest of Big Brother because Hijack doesn't get promotion or the publicity it had when it was on C4 because C4 purposely wanted it more low key. Considering during BB8, BBBM got 700,000 viewers with a 3.5m lead in and Hijack is getting around 600,000 with next to no promotion and it being on E4 (0.6m is very respectable for E4) I would say yes, it is healthy for Big Brother and the purpose of the show.

Enough of the excuses. Celebrity Hijack as a stand alone E4 show has been promoted on E4. And its hardly as if people need to know its their. Judged against itself , the ratings still got lower with every passing week.

Its not being promoted anymore, and they keep playing about with the times sometimes its on at 8pm and sometimes its on at 9pm. What you don't seem to grasp is that ratings for most shows slide over the series.

Which is a direct result of what.....?

....falling ratings.

Surely it would be the other way around? If they were not confident or happy with the ratings they would advertise it more?

No , its the fact that the show is not what it once was , so obviously it can not get the insane treatment media wise it got before.

Even though it got a massive amount of coverage in 2007 ...

Thats why CBB6 was postponed, because they wanted to let the dust settle because its not been out of the papers in 2007.

Yes , thats because it was in the processing of being killed off in 2007. Sure Big Brother 8 started with a bang , but it ended with a whimper.

And what happened to your claims that Celebrity Hijack was not promoted that much?

Oh yeah , because this time its okay , they purposefully gave ti a low budget treatment so not as to create a drama shitstorm.

I guess that justifies the sub-standard ratings.

Hijack is in 2008 not 2007 so coverage in 2007 never affected Hijack. It has the same budget as CBB because it is only a filler show so C4 don't breach the Endemol contract. The ratings are not substandard. They are big for E4. If it was on Channel 4 then maybe we could compare it to other series, but its not. The launch show aired 1 hour on C4 and didn't match the ratings of previous launches but thats to be expected because its an E4 only series and it was publicised to launch on E4, not C4 and E4.

But the ratings are falling every week! And dont say 'thats the way their supposed to be' or 'thats the way it goes' because it is not. Interest is just wanning. And fast.

Let's think about it, how far down can it go from where it is now before it shoots back up...
