It's not a causation relationship.

Money doesn't = happiness.

But it certainly goes a long way into helping.
Not just for materialistic thing, but for comfort of living. For example my mum is disabled (to the point she feels excruciating pain 24/7) and all it would take would be an operation to replace her knees / hips... it wouldn't make her able to walk, but she wouldn't be in constant torture.

Plus the fact everyone likes buying things.

If I'm going to get technical (I think I am... I am), the buying of an item incorporates a "reward" system to yourself, and if I'd group behaviourist and biological psychologists - the reward system would increase levels of serotonin and thus enhance the feeling of "happiness". Erm, I'm not gonna go into other psychology branches cos I'm too geeky.

See that's basically what I was trying to say! Oh Lauren I don't know what I'd do without your little snippets of knowledge [just realised that I've spelt knowledge wrong for my entire life] on here!

Agreed. The material aspects of life don't make you truly happy.
Toothpaste makes me VERY happy.
Why do you keep mentioning toothpaste?

I suppose that quesiton depends on the person.

If you are a person who is very materialistic then i suppose money can buy you happines. and if you are easily pleased then yeh i suppose it can.

But if your a person who values finer things in life like love, friendship and companionship then no it cant buy you happiness. cos you can have all the money in the world if your a person who wants love then it wont help at all.

Yes it can, because the things that would make me happy involve money in some way. So with money, I could accomplish what I want to do and be happy. So yes.

Ok so I said it couldn't but it does involve money to make you happy sometimes. Like if I couldn't buy cd's and listen to music on a mp3 and wear pretty clothes I wouldn't be so happy.

But thats not what makes me primarily happy, its the love I get from people and give back to them. Without love we wouldn't be happy,so the thing that we need the most to be happy can't be bought. Not genuinely anyway.

You have to be alive to be happy, just waking up now and seeing another day come to an end makes me so happy, I'm so very very scared to die.

And all the money in the world cant buy you another day to live and be happy again for another day.

Exactly. Being free of financial burdens in itself is an aid to happiness.....Too much money however could have the opposite effect by generating false friends etc.

Bottom line is happiness is a state of mind than can exist with or without money......It boils down to the particular personality of each individual..Some are miserable gits like me and nothing makes them happy.... (Just joking!!! I think!!!!) others are happy to the point of being positively insane when there is no reason to be happy....

Money doesn't automatically bring happiness. It gives you more choices. However, lack of money may bring unhappiness, in my opinion. But according to a opinion poll, 97% people think Money can't buy happiness, but sure it helps!

Very much depends on the person...I know having a lot of money now would make me happy...but i already have my wonderful fiance and loving family...I dont know if money alone would be enough.

It really doesn't bring you happiness unless you're joyful inside in the first place. There's so many examples of miserable millionaires, particularly the ones who get rich quick or win the lotto. If you're an unhappy pauper the likelihood is that you'll eventually feel exactly the same if you suddenly become rich, give or take a month or a year or whatever.

I wonder if Simon Cowell would give up his money for a wife who loved him and some children to love

I doubt a happy mum and dad would reverse that scenario?

Yeah course it can, just because you have money doesn't mean you wont be happy.

I don't believe it does. It'd be like a McDonald's meal. It'll fill you up and give you a rush, but an hour later you'll be hungry again. I think it can help and define your happiness, but true happiness isn't/shouldn't be about things/stuff . It can improve your quality of life.... So let's say you've got no bills to worry about, but you have no friends, no loved ones, and you're sat there in your plush kitchen, staring at your hobbit feet, sick of watching Jeremy Kyle and wondering where all the good **** is... doesn't sound too good.
