Its good because it has lots of humor and banter, but also alot of action and ALOOOOT of effects. I would describe it as more 'Marvel-y' and more broad in terms of the audience. It has deffinatley 100% changed for the better ! |

this is a definite downside to only having female/gay friends.

It was apsolutely brilliant. Best summer blockbuster of the last decade perhaps. |

I'm a bit of a Trekker and although I enjoyed the film, I wouldn't be going be too mad about it in certain areas, particularly in the final act where it loses it's way a bit. I can
understand the motivation behind giving it a more Star Warsy type feel(broadening it's appeal I suppose), and I'm willing to accept this on their first mission, but I would hope as they mature into their characters so too will the scripts and they'll reintroduce the loftier issues that Star Trek has always been willing to explore. No harm in attracting more costumers, but please don't do it at the expense of Roddenberry's vision. Anyway, rant over. lol The first hour was absolutely spectacular though. |

I didn't like the Uhura and Spoke relationship one bit or the underuse of Wynona Ryder, but I think it excelled at what it was; a fun summer popcorn flick. But, as a Trekkie myself, I do hope that the next films have more of a star trek feel to them. Perhaps they can do a remake of the one where they saved the whales! That'd be so fun! |

I loved it (just got the DVDVDVDVD) it was EPIC, this film beats all of the old Star Trek franchise, Kirk was actually likeable! I love how it connected to the other films though, but at the same time acted as a reboot, I lol'd when the Nokia tune went off, it was like...WTF...this is Star Trek....and thats Nokia! xD I cant wait until the sequel

Nothing in excess

I only saw this yesterday, but was absolutely gobsmacked at how they managed to put two things I had (at best) lukewarm feelings about (the ailing Star Trek franchise and the "talent" of Mission Impossible III director J.J. Abrams) together and came up with the most fantastically entertaining sci-fi film I've seen in years.
Also I disagree with the comparisons people have made to Star Wars. The new Star Trek movie had something Star Wars never had. Nuanced storytelling and compelling characters. Who would have thought? |
