People use abbreviations in everyday life. The ones listed in this thread aren't even too bad (bar maybe ohai which isn't an abbreviation). "OK" is an abbreviation, yet overlooked. Same with "lol".

Yeh they are overused but calling people 'babe' and telling you love them can mean nothing. It doesn't need to mean anything serious. Friends say "I love you" to each other, in a friends way. You don't need to create a new argument.
