Michael Jackson Tribute Song Exceeds 100,000 Plays
June 26th, 2009 | by Pete Cashmore A tribute song to Michael Jackson featuring The Game, Chris Brown, Diddy, Usher, Mario Winans, Boyz2Men and other leading artists has resulted in an unprecedented number of downloads today from Box.net, the file sharing site we’ve been tracking for over 3 years. The song was spread largely through social media: Diddy tweeted the link to his almost 1.3 million Twitter (Twitter) followers, making “Better On The Other Side” the most popular link on Twitter today by far (at the time of writing, it has almost 2000 retweets). While Box.net does not usually disclose its stats, we approached the company and received approval to make the numbers public. The short of it: the tribute song will exceed 100,000 plays by the end of the day, a remarkable number. http://www.box.net/shared/z63l72udbo |

Revealed: Jackson's Last Magazine Cover Shot
One of the final photographs of Michael Jackson, showing the singer with shades and sunken cheeks, has appeared on the cover of the latest edition of Q magazine. The decision to feature the star on the cover was taken three months ago and the issue was intended to mark the start of the Jackson's London concerts, the editor said. Photographer John Wright, who snapped the cover image, said he was given just 90 seconds to take Jackson's picture but added that he had been struck by the singer's polite manner. "I got a call saying Michael Jackson was in London and I could shoot him," said Mr Wright. "I never thought for a second it would come off, so I was surprised when he did turn up at the office where we were doing the shoot. "He looked exactly like you'd expect Michael Jackson to look: hair weave, military jacket, shades on inside. "He was wearing a lot of make-up and he didn't have the healthiest skin that I've ever seen. "He seemed fairly comfortable in front of the camera, though he wasn't jumping through hoops. I got a minute-and-a-half to shoot him, which is no time at all. "My abiding memory is how polite he was - forgetting everything that's gone on, if you were his parents, you'd be proud of how you'd brought him up." Q's editor-in-chief Paul Rees explained that uncanny timing had seen the edition go on sale just two days after the singer's untimely death. "Work on this issue was completed a fortnight ago and it was printed shortly thereafter," he said. "When news of Michael Jackson's death broke, it was already being distributed. As such, we have had no opportunity to change any of the editorial content within the issue. "Such is the risk inherent in producing a monthly magazine - that events may overtake a story that you are committed to." Mr Rees said that a feature about Jackson's Thriller album would stand as the magazine's tribute to the late star: "It remains a remarkable work by a truly remarkable pop star. We shall not see his like again." Source |

Wow, I didn't realise they'd distributed the issue.... or had they? I have a feeling they've done it for publicity.

The Jacksons: 'We Can't Describe Our Pain'
Michael Jackson's family has released a statement describing his death as "one of the darkest moments of our lives". The comments were issued to People magazine by the pop superstar's father Joseph Jackson. The statement reads: "In one of the darkest moments of our lives we find it hard to find the words appropriate to this sudden tragedy we all had to encounter. "Our beloved son, brother and father of three children has gone so unexpectedly, in such a tragic way and much too soon. "It leaves us, his family, speechless and devastated to a point, where communication with the outside world seems almost impossible at times. "We miss Michael endlessly, our pain cannot be described in words. "But Michael would not want us to give up now. "So we want to thank all of his faithful supporters and loyal fans worldwide, you - who Michael loved so much. "Please do not despair, because Michael will continue to live on in each and every one of you. "Continue to spread his message, because that is what he would want you to do. "Carry on, so his legacy will live forever." Jackson's father added a personal statement focusing on the late singer's three children Prince Michael I, Paris and Prince Michael II. He said: "My grandchildren are deeply moved by all the love and support you have shown for them and their father, Michael Jackson." Source |
