Brown can sit till there is an effective majority government formed by the Conservatives. Or can stay in power till a vote in the Commons either defeats his policies. A vote of no confidence in his Government. He can be wise and let the Conservative and Lib Dems either reach agreement or break down then approach the Lib Dems and see if they can reach an agreement. Or the Conservatives go through all the other little parties and Independents etc to see if they can reach 326 seats for support.

Or he could step down anytime he feels like.

Best we get used to it though because if they do move to any form of proportional representation this sort of impasse will occur after every election.

No you are wrong - Cameron has the right to call a vote of no confidence in Brown since he LOST the election, and to form a minority government - he can do this without Clegg, which I would prefer even if it means another general election soon.

New Labour LOST and even their own MPs are calling for Brown to accept defeat. Cameron doesn't have to prove to loser Brown and his loser cabinet ministers that he can run a stable government, Brown has lost that right. Why on earth are you condoning the clinging on by his fingertips of that unelected scum Brown when the whole world knows he has LOST the election and LOST the trust of the people. Mandelson has already lined up Milliband as Brown's successor and Brown is OUT whatever happens.

The people of this country do NOT want another UNELECTED PM thrust down our throats. It is not a gift belonging to the Labour Gestapo to be bestowed upon Milliband or any other Labour MP , it is to be earned via the ballot box.
