so that last sentence doesn't count here (or at least not until we know otherwise from scientists)

If you were to strip measles herd immunity out of the population and remove the vaccine, the death toll would make Covid look like a joke. In situations where an immune-naive population has had measles introduced (e.g. Native American tribes when the Europeans arrived) the death toll was massive. |

Scarlet Fever is also no joke in children, both of my children have had it and it was very scary, especially in my eldest. Thankfully, it's bacterial and so a course of antibiotics will knock it down. Without antibiotics Scarlet Fever is again FAR more dangerous than Covid (in an individual sense) and the only reason it's not a huge deal today is that we know how to treat it and avoid the more serious complications (pneumonia, rheumatic fever, kidney disease). It's not usually serious in adults because adults have a good "base" level of strep (the bacteria) immunity. Again, it's about prolonged exposure.
Tl;dr as always, Covid is mostly only more worrying because its new. On that topic; some interesting new research emerging that people who live or work with children (so parents, teachers etc.) are possibly less likely to get "bad" Covid because if increased recent exposure to other coronaviruses from kids. Which potentially means that Granny who had spent a lot of time with grandkids pre-Covid is at less risk because of better immune response. Its all fascinating stuff, really. |

I wish were being told the whole truth ..
I keep hearing that our schools are safe , the children are safe etc etc Yet Sky News just said that SAGE are saying the best way of stopping this sharp increase in infections is to close schools and Universities again - government state this is not an option. The stance taken by SAGE suggests that our schools are certainly not as safe as the government are telling us Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Sweden has no measures and those low numbers?
they aren't testing enough then, those numbers should be up way higher at least around where germany is now, or above that

Closing schools it just isn't a viable long-term option - there's no guarantee of a vaccination programme at all, and certainly not rolled out within a year or more, and you can't just say "we'll just not have schools any more" for several years... putting aside the untold damage that would have on an entire generation - it makes it essentially impossible for single parents or both people in a couple to continue working, and putting health idealism aside, people need an income to survive. We're not talking about shutting schools for another couple of months - that would be pointless - you're talking shutting schools indefinitely. "Putting a hold" on education, one of the core essentials of any society. Something that has literally never been done, for any reason. Last edited by Toy Soldier; 13-10-2020 at 02:07 PM. |

Sweden has more cases than they say, but if you do not test enough, you never get to know the real numbers

Shame on the government. 143 had to lose their lives today just so schools can be open.

Keir Starmer calls for 2-3 week circuit break lockdown, in line with SAGE recommendation Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has warned the government "has lost control of infections and is no longer following scientific advice". "There's no longer time to give this prime minister the benefit of the doubt," Sir Keir said in a televised news conference. He said the short lockdown should include a "temporary set of clear and effective restrictions designed to get the R rate down". Schools would remain open, Mr Starmer says.] |

he now misses the nations league match against Sweden this is where the difference is with professional sports, and amateur sports professional sportspeople are tested daily, whereas amateur sportspeople cannot afford daily testing so they are more among risks

The number of secondary schools in England sending home pupils because of Covid is increasing rather than diminishing, the latest official figures show.
There are 21% of secondary schools counted as not fully open - up from 18% the previous week and 8% in mid-September. This is usually because they have sent home pupils in response to Covid cases. About 7% of primary schools had to send home pupils, up from 5%. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-54524291 |
