FOUR love splits will hit Corrie in March.
Peter Barlow and Leanne Battersby will see their relationship hit the rocks just a month after Valentine’s Day. They will be joined by David Platt and Tina McIntyre, Liz McDonald and Lloyd Mullaney and Gail Platt and Joe McIntyre. Thirsty bookie Peter (Chris Gascoyne) will discover all bets are off with ex-hooker Leanne (Jane Danson) when she finds out he’s been having an affair. She screams: “I should have known better than to get involved with a bigamist.” Teens Tina (Michelle Keegan) and David (Jack P Shepherd) call it a day when she refuses to lie for him in court. As she packs her bags, tearful Tina tells him: “I’m going away and don’t try to contact me.” Click here to see pics of the doomed couples in happier times Click here for slideshow Meanwhile, the unlikely affair between Liz (Bev Callard) and Lloyd (Craig Charles) ends when the cabbie can’t bring himself to tell pals that he’s shacked up with his best mate’s MUM. The mini-skirted landlady calls it off by telling him: “You were embarrassed about my age. I can’t carry on like this.” And furious Gail (Helen Worth) turfs out Joe (Reece Dinsdale) when she discovers that he only moved in with her because he was homeless. She tells him: “I thought you loved me. Get out of my house and don’t ever come back.” The Sun |

![]() IT has become a special place for legions of Coronation Street fans who have seen some of the TV soap’s most famous couples tie the knot there. Holy Trinity Church in Prestolee has witnessed the likes of Ken and Deirdre Barlow and Bet Lynch and Alec Gilroy exchange their vows in its guise as All Saints Church, Weatherfield. But the setting for some of the long-running soap’s most unforgettable moments now faces an uncertain future after Diocesan leaders confirmed they intend to close the building with a decision set to be made on March 4. The 149-year-old Victorian church has been under threat since 2006, due to low congregations and high maintenance costs. Three years ago Holy Trinity and its sister church, St Saviour, were attracting congregations of only 30 worshippers and, coupled with high repair costs, church officials said one of the churches had to go. Despite the action of parishioners, who have raised funds and boosted church attendances, Church of England commissioners have opted to close the building. Church warden Susan Bromilow, aged 61, who has attended services at Holy Trinity for more than 41 years, said attendances had doubled since 2006 and almost £29,000 had been raised. Mrs Bromilow said: “We have nearly 1,800 signatures from people who wish to keep both Holy Trinity and St Saviour open. “Even people who don’t go to church have been willing to give something.” And the churchgoers have vowed to carry on their fight. Mrs Bromilow said: “Churches have closed before and reopened. It’s not totally over. We won’t give up.” A spokesman for the Diocese of Manchester said: “There has been a long process of consultation with regard to Holy Trinity Church. This has led to the pastoral committee recommending its closure. “A scheme has, therefore, been issued to that effect. Any objections must be lodged with the committee by February 27.” The church has been used for nearly three decades by Coronation Street producers as the setting for many famous weddings. It began in 1981 with the first wedding, of Deirdre Langton (Anne Kirkbride) marry Ken Barlow (William Roache). John Friend-Newman, the Street’s location manager, said it was a shame the church was closing, but added it would not affect future productions. He said: “The show has established other places in the storylines since they last used the venue.” Church officials said they would be speaking to planning bosses about the Grade II listed building’s long-term future. |
