In the times men women and children first and the first world war though, women were still treated as second class citizens, who had to stay in the kitchen and weren't allowed a vote. The women who were left behind during the war years didn't do the enlisting and I'm sure many would have preferred to go with their men and sons so don't make it out that they were sat at home in the lap of luxury, rubbing their hands waiting for that telegram to arrive. That is completely offensive to the memory of those people who lost their lives, sons, fathers etc....

In what way am I showing them disrespect please? I have nothing but respect - I lost my grandfather last week at the age of 96 - he was a serving soldier in Word War 2 and was injured but sent back out to fight. My other grandfather was a POW for 5 years....I have utmost respect for what they went through but I also have respect for my Nan at home, bringing up small children on rations, with the threat of bombings and worrying how the love of her life was getting on, losing brothers and working in an ammunition factory....she deserves some respect too thank you very much
