H/L show at the end.

Noirin was going to the diary room after chatting with Siavash. Siavash seemed concerned that Noirin was going in to talk about him and what they had been discussing.

Noirin said to Siavash

"It's not you...it's thing"
I think she was just referring to the whole situation, not just Marcus in particular. Don't get me wrong now.... I'm not defending Noirin..... I despise the girl but in this incident I don't think she was just talking about Marcus. If she was then that's a different matter.
Possibly, I don't recall exactly what happened afterwards in the diary room.

'Thingy' I can understand, 'thing' just sounded like an insult, I was just trying to get it clear in my head.
I'm in agreement about thing.... that's an insult when you're talking about a person, but in this instance she's just talking about everything. But please don't think I'm defending Noiring- I'm hating myself for doing it right now lol

I was there on tuesday - and I lived there for the first 26 years of my life - I dunno where you hang out but everyone I know uses 'thing' and 'thingy' in exactly the same way as they would use 'yer man' or 'whatshisname' - exactly the same.

Examples:
Friend A: "I haven't seen thing in ages"
Friend B: "Who?"
Friend A: "You know thing... with the hair!"
Friend B: "Oh her!"

Friend A: "So, do you fancy thing?"
Friend B: "No!"
Friend A: "But you said he was fit"
Friend B: "Oh.. thing, I thought you meant yer man"

Coming to think about it I think HSBC did a series of adverts about it.

You know, the ones where a good thing in one culture might be offensive in others.

'Thing' was on of them

Honestly, have you just walked outta the Snapper or the Commitments? Thing is not used as readily as you think it is and it all has to do with context. She knows Marcus well at this stage and to call him thing would be an insult.

I've worked and lived in Dublin area all my life and you never refer to anyone you know as thing. In this example with Noirin she was just talking about the whole situation.... the "thing".

Ha ha... there's nothing wrong with thingy over there being used. that's fine. still a bit of a slagging but fine. but to say thing about someone you know.... sorry- bad. she didn't in this example though- just talking about everything.

There's nothing more to it than that - she just didn't want to say his name because she didn't want to be overheard talking about him by other HMs I guess.
Rubbish

I'm from Clare and 'thing' is very often used when you can't think of someones name - see the fab examples above from Ooo_get_her.
I think in this case she could have meant either marcus or the whole conversation she'd just had, but none of it was meant in a vindictive way.

We were bound to eventually. ha ha. Is there a Franciscan brewery in Cork near the river? I vaguely remember going in there for a little taster and it turned into a session. Wonderful stuff.
