Eh, I feel the need to elaborate on this.

I was definitely not one of the first people to 'discover' her, but I did first hear of her sometime in 2007, I think. I found her purevolume account, and liked one of the songs on there, but never thought to look her up again. I definitely know it was early because she had dark hair in all her pics, and this picture was her default, but even then she was being hyped up to be big.

When she first started to emerge as famous online, it took me a while to 'get' her. Once I got hooked on 'Beautiful, Dirty, Rich' however, it was all up from there. I waited for the international edition of 'The Fame' to be released and downloaded that with all her demos, and from then on, have downloaded every song that she's made.

I know I won't get fed up with her because for me, she's the perfect popstar. She's got a good voice, as well as musical talent (plays piano, writes songs), she makes consistently fantastic pop songs with good looks and hidden meanings, her videos are artistic and creative, and she's theatrical. As a performer myself I'm a huge sucker for anything theatrical, and her live performances have always drawn me in. I saw her in the Monster Ball Tour and she's surpassed every other act I've ever seen live. As long as she makes music, I'll definitely follow her. I know she's not perfect, but no-one is. Point is, there's not one song of hers I dislike, and I can't wait to see what'll happen next.

That hardly makes you a fucking maverick. She was an internet phenomenon by then, if I recall, and tens of thousands of people followed her. It was widely known that she was going to be big, and was tipped as the next it thing. It's not as if you were breaking the mould or anything. Your simply one of many, many people who hopped on the ride early and convinced themselves that it must be something pretty special because they 'discovered' her.
