The Great British Public: they lost interest in it, so the producers tried to spice it up with more unreal contestants, plot twists that werent either amusing or entertaining, fast tracking individuals through the selection process etc, changing the appeal of the show to target certain minorities.

Too many wannabes... people saw it as a great opportunity to get invitations to premieres and nightclubs and magazine deals.... it lost its 'reality' and just putting in fame hungry wannabes. This year they IMO have gone back to basics and captured a group of people who are more deserving to be on there. There are a few who want to get something from it....ie. Coirin/Ben/Rachael/Keeley and possibly Caoimhe... but the rest are just enjoying the experience...Mario/Andrew/JJ/Dave/Steve.

Putting Nikki back in BB7, then the CBB race row. The media didn't want to be associated with such a show anymore so they turned their back on it. And since then - political correctness all the way to the grave.

while I agree with much of what has already been said, don't you think part of the problem in recent years has been the HMs themselves? Too many who want to go in to make themselves famous, without thinking what the BB experience should be about?
Whatever you think about current HMs like Mario and JJ, they are first and foremost there because they are huge fans of BB, and not there to build a media career out of it |

The race row (and the whole putting Nikki back in) certainly marked the start of significant downfall in terms of the show's popularity
But in my opinion, the show was always going to get less and less popular over time as the format would get worn and people would have seen all the show has to offer. In more recent years, attempts to spruce up the show and add lots of twists etc could be seen as desperate, thus turning viewers off. In addition, the producers have had to think of new, exciting things to do with the show that preserved the inoffensive, PC attitude that came as a result of the race row, which evidently proved to be difficult to an extent. Big Brother would have died on its own - the Race Row just got the ball rolling. Very sad, but completely inevitable in my opinion |
