Why not?! American artists sing in their own accents so why don't the British? She speaks in it all day everyday so surely singing in it can't be too hard.

The thing with Rebecca is that she takes the standard American singing accent even further and actually tries to impersonate a minority accent in order to sound more soulful. Her singing voice sounds more like she's from Chicago or New York, where soul music is said to originate from.

A little bit of trivia for you - in her first audition Rebecca sang "Change Will Come" by Sam Cooke, from Chicago, Illinois.

THIS is my problem with Rebecca and her voice, and the reason why I hate artists like Joss Stone and Taio Cruz (even if they do have some very catchy songs!)

Yes, the thing is though she doesn't sound American at all. You are criticising almost everyone in the music industry for not singing with their own accent. I don't see what the problem is. SHE CAN SING. FACT! Plus what the hell, since when did Joss Stone sing in an american accent!?
