Ryan Giggs missed Manchester United's open training session on Tuesday a day after being named in Parliament as the player at the centre of a high-profile privacy case.

Giggs was pictured on the front pages of national newspapers after he was identified by a member of parliament as the footballer who had gained a High Court injunction preventing allegations of an affair being published.

Giggs, one of United's most influential players this season as the club sealed a record 19th English title, is expected to be in the starting line-up for Saturday's Champions League final against Barcelona at Wembley.

The strain was plain to see on the face of both Ryan Giggs and his wife today.

After being named in Parliament by MP John Hemming as the player who had used a gagging order to hide details of a six-month affair with former Big Brother contestant Imogen Thomas, Giggs wore a pained expression as he arrived at Manchester United's training ground today.

He was meant to be preparing for a game tonight, but could be forgiven if his mind was elsewhere.

Stacey Giggs, meanwhile, who has stayed silent throughout the scandal, was pictured without her wedding ring today leaving the family home in Worsley, Greater Manchester.

Police were later called to the street where the couple lives after reports that a number of cars belonging to the paparazzi had been damaged.

Officers found that six vehicles had been attacked by a group of masked men who approached in a van.

Cars were vandalised today in a suspected attack targeting photographers outside the home of Ryan Giggs.

A group of masked men damaged the body work, slashed tyres and egged the vehicles parked near the footballer's mansion in Worsley, Greater Manchester.

The Manchester United star, unmasked by an MP after hiding behind a gagging order over allegations of an affair with Imogen Thomas, was notably absent from training yesterday.

Sources close to the 37-year-old star, who did turn up to play in Gary Neville’s testimonial match last night, say his devoted wife Stacey Cooke, 32, is furious with him after he assured her details of his alleged fling with the Big Brother beauty, 28, would never emerge.

One source said: “Ryan admitted the affair to Stacey some time ago. He told her he had made a huge mistake and wants to save their marriage for the sake of their two children.

“But he promised to keep a lid on the affair so she wouldn’t face the humiliation of it becoming public knowledge.

“Now she’s devastated he’s let her down again. He took some really bad advice. She’s worried of walking down the street because of all the attention.

“They have been rowing for some time and Stacey even took of her wedding ring in anger. She isn’t happy.” Giggs missed yesterday’s training session in Manchester ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final against Barcelona.

The grim-faced player arrived at the training ground just after 9am in his Range Rover but did not take part.

Add to all of that the fact that most thinking people think he is a vacuous, self-obsessed, cheating, lying tw@. You're holding him up as some kind of hero because he cheated on his wife, the mother of his children, to shag an ex-reality star. That's some criteria you working to there.

If his wife wants to forgive him it's her business and not ours.. Besides are the Politicians trying to curry favour with the public by finally naming him or are they trying to deflect attention away from themselves as there might be one of them with an injunction perhaps?

Either way the rules surrounding injuctions need to be re-evaluated. Ryan Giggs image might be ruined now and he might have lost respect in some quarters but in sporting terms because of what he's acheived this scandal shouldn't affect that IMO anyway.
