Very true, all Channel 5 have paid for is the rights to broadcast and for the show to be produced, they dont actually have to air it.

As for sponsors and advertisers depends on how long the contract to air advertisements in line with BB programs is for and the payment schedule.

Be a bit of a waste of money for them but if viewing figures do fall significantly further, replacing the program with something else would certainly be considered.

They probably though haven't got or even got in the pipeline anything else that would pull in on average over 1 million viewers though.
Even on the current figures, BB is still one of the highest and often the highest thing watched on Channel 5.

No, ordinary people can still be interesting if the format is right. If you mix them with the kind of trashy format you expect in a celeb show then obviously it won't work. Of course there is part of the TV audience that only watches the celeb reality shows, there always has been.

They should have done what Australia did and leave BB for a few years then start it back up again. A lot of people have grown tired of the programme and C5 have not helped secure fans with the axing of LF and their odd editing style.

They shouldn't have delayed it because of the boxing, even if people have to wait 15 mins those who are not die hard viewers will probably go off, do something else and not come back.

I swear sometimes Channel 5 forgets it has two other channels at their disposal!

Advertising slots are costed on the estimated number of viewers - high numbers high cost, low numbers cheaper ads. I think it fair to say that if you're paying premium rates and those viewing figures tumble you are not going to be a very happy Bunny.

I don't think it helped that it was on quarter past 10 ? When, it use to be on at 9, then 10... Then just after X Factor, Channel Five need to get a solid time for the programme rather than just moving it around, Amount of times i thought i had missed it and put channel 5 on to see, and it had just started..

10.15 is a pathetic time to put the show on, and the way C5 shunt it around to make way for other things can do nothing but damage it. A 'soap opera' show like this one requires a static slot to flourish.

This really is the best show in years so far, aside from no LF. Endemol should be congratulated, but C5 need shooting for their scheduling.

I think another reason why the rating are quite poor is the lack of the 5HD channel on freeview HD. If you think about it most people would rather watch a prime time program in HD if they have the ability to and seeing as BB 2011 was the first one to be filmed in HD its ludicrous to have not had 5HD on freeview in preparation.

All the other programs it is going up against are on Freeview HD channels (things like Downton Abbey) so how on earth can it compete!

If they don't move the time slot to 9pm from now on they're fools. When it was onstraight after XF it was doing fine because it took a portion of their viewers.

We'll see if tonight proves this.

Well done C5 you're doing a great job on allocating time slots

This could be the night it drops to 500,000 or something. They are getting it all arse backwards... it could have been on 9:00 last night and 10:00 tonight. Screw the boxing.

Yeah I know but I'm laughing at how Channel 5 is bringing this all on themselves because they don't seem to be putting much effort into making it a success. They could do so much different with the format, tasks etc but its like they reprinted CH4's BB but with even less care and attention.

I know a lot of people who will be mssing BB tonight to watch Downton Abbey,I am not one of them but makes little sense to put BB on against that just coming back.

Downton Abbey has had masses of publicity too.

Channel 5 are slavishly following the usual american network formula, if you want to ditch a programme that you bought in error or simply want to get rid of, screw around with its air times then when the ratings drop you have an excuse to drop it.

BTW I don't think I'm too far out when I labelled this "Desmond's Folly"

My mum and sister are both big fans of BB they've never missed a show, however because it's shown late (for them) they both watch on catch-up the following afternoon.

I've never watched an episode of BB live in nearly 5 years, I always sky+ my shows and watch them at my own leisure.

I wonder how many other viewers watch the show via another option.
