Winter's Bone is about as dreary as it gets, with an incredible landscape...of even more dreariness with a well-acted cast, working off an incredibly low budget. It's a slow-burn type of movie, and it screams indie. Try 20 minutes and see if you can't stop watching. Take Shelter felt of much greater production value, IMHO, although it wasn't considered expensive. A nice twist ending as well. I'd watch Winter first and Take Shelter second for the contrast in visual imagery. Enjoy them both!

if you like twist ending's, one of the best is a film called shattered, it's a film from the early 90s starring tom berringer, gretta scacchi, bob hoskins and joanne whalley kilmer, it's not a very well known film but it's intriguing, don't be put off by some critic's calling the twist silly, (and even if it is silly it's still a brilliant twist) (one of the best)

i've only seen this film once myself, and that was about 15 to 20 year's ago, but it's a film that stick's in the mind to this day, mainly because of the twist.
i strongly recommend it.
